Here Are 31 Pics Of The Catastrophic Floods In Australia That Show You What's Really Going On

Australia faced one of the worst floods in the last few decades.

Thousands of people were told to evacuate their homes, and many more were advised to prepare to leave as the Australian government braced for one of the worst floods this country has experienced in decades. The extreme weather faced by the people of Australia was described as a "1-in-1000 years" event by New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet.

That's all you need to read to understand how dire the situation was for the unfortunate residents of eastern Australia, the area of the country that was hit the hardest. Military helicopters were deployed to rescue stranded individuals from the rooftops of completely submerged houses and other buildings.

Several bridges and even entire towns were submerged in Queensland and New South Wales following the floods. The devastating weather then moved south toward Australia's largest city, Sydney.

Below, we have some pictures that shed light on this catastrophe, which hasn't received much attention. Scroll down to gain a better understanding of what happened and to see what people on the internet had to say.
