Forgot to Pick Up My Spouse From the Airport: AITA?

AITA for forgetting to pick up my spouse from the airport? Opinions vary on whether the mistake was understandable or a major blunder, sparking a debate on prioritizing commitments.

A 30-year-old man forgot to pick up his wife from the airport, and it turned into the kind of quiet, awkward problem that lingers way longer than one missed ride.

He and his 28-year-old spouse have been married for five years and usually have a strong relationship. But on her business trip return day, he got slammed with work, promised he would pick her up, then completely blanked until she called asking where he was. By the time he rushed to the airport, she had already taken a taxi home, and now she barely says anything.

Now he’s wondering if he messed up more than just a schedule.

Original Post

I (30M) have been married to my spouse (28F) for five years, and we've always had a strong relationship. Recently, my spouse had to go on a business trip, and I promised I'd pick her up from the airport upon her return.

However, on the day of her arrival, I got caught up with work and completely forgot about picking her up. When my spouse called to ask where I was, I realized my mistake and rushed to the airport, but she was understandably upset and had to take a taxi home.

She hasn't said much since she got back, and I can sense her disappointment. I feel terrible for forgetting such an important commitment, but at the same time, I was swamped with work that day.

So, AITA?

He had one job, pick up his wife, and then the work deadline steamrolled right over it.

When she called from the airport asking where he was, his “I’m on my way” moment instantly turned into damage control.

The taxi home is the detail that makes this sting, because she didn’t just wait, she paid and rode alone.

Since she’s gone quiet after coming back, his guilt is mixing with the fear that her disappointment is sticking around.
