Customer Thinks They Hit The Burrito Jackpot, But Chipotle Says "Whoops"

"I would have cried."

A 28-year-old Chipotle Rewards member, Shae Williams, thought she cracked the code and hit the burrito jackpot. She got an email that basically screamed, “You’re getting free Chipotle for a year,” and her excitement went from zero to full guac mode fast.

Then it all got yanked away. A follow-up email rolled in saying the first one was a mistake, “nevermind,” like it was no big deal. Williams posted a TikTok calling Chipotle out, because the whole thing was the emotional whiplash combo: exhilaration, then disappointment, then a free entrée dropped into her Rewards wallet instead of the promised 12-month streak.

And the wild part? Other people in the comments said they got the exact same January 12 birthday email mix-up. Here’s the full story.

Shae Williams was already celebrating when the “one year of free Chipotle” email hit, and then the second email showed up like a plot twist nobody asked for.

In the video, Williams expresses frustration and disbelief:

“Chipotle, I need y’all to BFFR [Be fucking for real]. Why did I get this email saying that I won free Chipotle for a year, and then all of a sudden I get another email saying, ‘Oh, no, that’s okay, nevermind, we sent that in error.'”

Viewers of the video were able to relate to the TikToker’s emotions of exhilaration and dejection when they realized they had not won a 12-month supply of Chipotle.

Chipotle’s message, “we sent that in error,” tried to smooth things over with a free entrée in her Rewards wallet, but the vibe was still ruined.

In her video, Shae basically demanded an explanation, because getting told “nevermind” is not the same as getting a consolation prize.

Viewers chimed in saying they also got the same email, especially people with January 12 birthdays, which made it feel less like a fluke and more like a mass mishap.

Many people commented that they had received the same email, indicating that it could have been sent to all or most reward members who have a birthday on January 12th. This was an obvious mistake, but it was a pretty cruel one.

What do you think? Would you be sad?

Nobody wants to celebrate a free year, then get a “whoops” and a single entrée instead.
