El Capitan’s 100th birthday lineup includes a restored Alice in Wonderland and a one night Dumbo screening

El Capitan Theatre will show a 4K restored Alice in Wonderland Nov. 6 to 11, plus a one night Dumbo screening on Nov. 7.

Disney fans heading to Hollywood this November will find a centennial twist at the El Capitan Theatre. The theater’s 100th anniversary program is bringing back animated classics, led by a newly restored Alice in Wonderland and a single scheduled screening of Dumbo.

As part of its Centennial Celebration, the historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood is adding special showings of Disney animation favorites to its lineup.

The biggest change is a theatrical run for an all new 4K restoration of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Alice in Wonderland. The screenings are set for November 6 through November 11, with multiple showtimes each day. Tickets are available through the theater’s official site. General admission is $19 for all ages, except on Tuesdays, when tickets are $8.

The theater is also scheduling Dumbo for one night only, with just one screening planned that evening. That showing is set for Saturday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for Dumbo are also available on the official site and are priced at $19 for all ages.

What makes the Alice screening different

This Alice in Wonderland presentation is built around a restoration completed by the Walt Disney Film Restoration team. Over nine months, artists digitally scanned the original nitrate Successive Exposure negatives and carried out cleanup work to address dust, warping and wear tied to the film’s age.

The restoration team also used original production artwork preserved by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library to keep the finished result aligned with the filmmakers’ original intent. Walt Disney Animation Studios veteran Michael Giaimo worked with the team to review every shot and help refine color and luminance.

The restored version was unveiled earlier this year and has already been shown at public venues, including the TCM Film Festival. It was also released earlier this year on physical media and digital platforms.
