Woman Saved Her Girlfriend's Homophobic Grandma's Life When She Choked During Christmas Dinner
"Do you know what it's like to give CPR to your girlfriend's grandma on Christmas?"
When Lizzy's girlfriend's grandmother started choking on her steak during Christmas dinner, Lizzy did what any hero would do: she saved grandma's life! Lizzy Bristow, also known as TikToker @bodybydaddy, later shared a video explaining the incident in detail.
When 91-year-old Dana began choking on her steak at dinner, Lizzy performed CPR on her after another family member failed to administer the Heimlich maneuver correctly. Thankfully, 31-year-old Lizzy, who runs a fitness business called 'Body By Daddy,' is CPR certified.
Ironically, grandma Dana had made a homophobic comment toward Lizzy earlier in the evening. However, Lizzy didn't let that impede her judgment and didn't hesitate to help her girlfriend's grandmother.
Lizzy's TikTok has since gone viral, receiving more than 7.7 million views and 1.5 million likes. "It still feels unreal that it happened," Lizzy said.
"I keep up with CPR training as a trainer and attend a class every other year, but you never actually think you'll have to do it," Lizzy explained. "It has definitely given me more confidence in myself."
"I hope more people think about getting CPR certified after watching my video. I was very happy that people found my storytelling entertaining. I hope that the video entertained people and encouraged them to get CPR certified. That was the aim of the video."
Lizzy never intended for the story's focus to be on Dana being homophobic. "The homophobic bit was just to add some humorous background on my relationship with Dana," she said.
So, how is Dana doing now? Lizzy said:
"Dana is doing well. She went into the hospital the next day; the chest X-ray showed every rib broken. She spent three days in the hospital and is now at home—family and friends are taking care of her. She's in the same spirit as before this happened."
The main point Lizzy hopes to convey in her TikTok is the importance of learning CPR. "It's such an easy skill to learn that anyone can be taught how to do it," she said.
"You never want to look back and regret that someone in the room didn't know CPR. Think if you, yourself, passed out—I hope someone in the room knows CPR."

Thanks to Lizzy, Dana is set to make a full recovery, and the family is eternally grateful!
"Her family's reaction was so thankful—lots of hugs. And her brother was calling me an angel, saying praise 2. (2 is my nickname since my girlfriend's name is Lizzie)," Lizzy said.Something tells us that Dana is pretty darn grateful as well. Keep being amazing, Lizzy!
