Woman Asks If She's Wrong For Getting Angry After Her Brother-In-Law Labeled Her Dress "Inappropriate"
He pointed straight at the woman and said her dress was inappropriate because her cleavage was showing.
Does anyone ever have the right to comment on another person's choice of clothing? I mean, surely we are each entitled to dress however we see fit, right?
Well, one woman recently shared a story on Reddit about a man who evidently feels he has the right to dictate what the females in his life wear. The Reddit user, u/NeighborhoodJazz57, explained in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit that her brother-in-law had accused her of wearing an "inappropriate" dress to a family get-together.
It turns out the BIL had previously been married to a woman named Nana, and the reason the marriage ended was due to the man's need to control where Nana went and what she wore. After his divorce, the BIL moved back in with his parents, so our OP saw him more often.
The Redditor explained that her BIL would regularly comment on what she was wearing, making her feel highly uncomfortable. However, she let it go because her in-laws insisted he was depressed and going through a hard time.
However, while celebrating her husband's birthday with the family recently, the BIL got on our OP's last nerve. As they were eating, he pointed straight at our OP and said her dress was inappropriate because her cleavage was showing.
He made the comment in front of everyone, and the Redditor felt humiliated. But instead of blowing up at him, she responded with a joke.
"Knock, knock!" she said. When her BIL replied, "Who's there?" she said, "Nana."
Slightly confused, the man said, "Nana who?" The woman replied, "Nana your goddamn business what I'm wearing! Okay!"
While her sisters-in-law found the joke hilarious, her husband and his parents were not impressed. They said she had no right to bring up the man's ex-wife when he was so depressed over the divorce.
So, the woman turned to the subreddit, asking, "AITA for my response after my BIL said my dress was inappropriate for a family gathering?" Keep scrolling down to read the story in full and find out what the Reddit community had to say about it.

What's your take on this one? Do you think our OP's reaction was a bit harsh, or do you think she was well and truly entitled to be angry?
Perhaps, in this case, they both could have handled things better. Of course, the BIL had no right to comment on what his sister-in-law (or any other woman) was wearing, but our OP's reaction was rather hurtful all the same.
