IT Guy Gets His Company Out Of A Five-Year Lease On Faulty Building By Calling In Inspections And Condemning It
This slumlord got what he deserved.
Even though building codes and inspections are much stricter now than they were in the past, slumlords remain a significant issue. Unfortunately, there will always be individuals trying to cut corners and save money, disregarding safety and the lives of others.
It's terrifying to hear of buildings collapsing because owners want to save money by cutting corners where they shouldn't. You never know which project will be the next to be found flawed or poorly constructed.
Typically, none of this is known to the general public, and it only comes to light when a tragedy occurs. Structural problems are more difficult to spot, but when an air conditioner stops working despite being installed not long ago, it becomes highly noticeable, especially during the heat.
And it is enough to make you wonder—there is a high probability that the investor has cut corners in other areas as well. A Redditor going by the name MysteriousTeaching30 shared his story—he managed to get his company out of a five-year lease by having the building condemned.
He had every right to do so since the investor had hidden numerous defects and wouldn’t allow OP’s company to cancel the lease contract.
OP’s company signs a five-year lease on a building that’s faulty as hell, and the building owner won’t cancel their contract, so one IT guy gets the building condemned.
MTA Construction & Development Mega Projects (Not the actual photo)OP shares his story:
RedditHe had to wire a building his company rented.
Reddit
And it is an itchy and messy job.
Reddit
After an eight-hour drive, they arrived at the site. The AC wasn't working, and it was summer.
Reddit
The building is basically a greenhouse, and working without A/C is a nightmare.
Reddit
The AC technicians fixed it, but still no cold air.
Reddit
The AC technicians came again and fixed the problem but wouldn't disclose what they did.
Reddit
They filled the system with the wrong gas.
Reddit
The AC crew is really messing it up...
Reddit
More problems arise—no water, too many workers around, and the AC can't keep up...
Reddit
OP notices the fire sprinklers are out of place. This is because the AC technicians actually stood on the sprinkler system while fixing the AC.
Reddit
By this time, OP’s company is looking for a way out of this hellhole.
Reddit
They are desperate.
Reddit
OP notices many more flaws and calls in the inspection.
Reddit
And the inspectors were ruthless.
Reddit
The entire building got condemned.
Reddit
Story in short:
Reddit
The building's owner is still trying to fight them, but he will end up paying for all of OP's company expenses.
Reddit
Redditors applauded OP.
Reddit
Always nice to hear...
Reddit
Game Over!
Reddit
So satisfying.
Reddit
Pure win.
Reddit
Fire marshals don't make compromises.
Reddit
Yes, lawyers are to blame here.

Cutting corners, cheap repairs that last only until the repairmen leave the building, and disregarding people's safety… This is awful.
It is hard to understand how someone can willingly put others in danger just to save a few bucks. But, unfortunately, people like this exist.
So it is important to call them out when you see such gross negligence.
