In the post above, Cameron shared a congratulatory image tied to the new milestone. The artwork is set in the world of Avatar and shows a group of Na'vi around Iron Man, along with the line, “You are one of the people.”

The switch puts Avengers: Endgame back on top after a long back and forth between the two films. When the Marvel movie first arrived, it overtook Avatar after what was described as an almost decade-long run at No. 1 for Cameron's film.

Avatar later returned to the top when a theatrical rerelease in 2021 lifted it back ahead. Now Endgame has reclaimed the title in the same way, leapfrogging Avatar to become the highest grossing movie ever once more.

Cameron's latest message also echoes what he did the first time the ranking changed. In 2019, he posted another tribute image for Marvel when Endgame initially passed Avatar.

For Disney fandom, it is another reminder that two of the studio's biggest modern giants keep trading one of cinema's most watched records, with Cameron publicly cheering the Marvel side each time Endgame gets there. Endgame is currently in theaters, while the Avatar series is available on Disney+.
