"Karen" Goes Viral On TikTok After Wildin' About Too Much Ketchup On Her Hamburger

Along with the new generation comes new lingo that has been popping up all over the World Wide Web. Gen Z has introduced many new words and phrases, and it is no wonder that one of the most popular ones is the term “Karen.”

The “Karen” label has been lingering on the internet for years. While it can be a person’s name, Karen is also an expression used to refer to someone who is being entitled or demanding to the point where their actions exceed what is considered normal.

The cause of their behaviors is defined on the internet as stemming from their white privilege, which they weaponize to fulfill their demands. Of course, their predominant trait is none other than wanting to “speak to the manager,” probably due to a minor hiccup in service or just to assert their dominance.

You can find many compilation videos that showcase their “best” qualities, from screaming at a fast food employee to forcibly entering a grocery store without wearing a mask—this during a pandemic. Because of the significant and unfortunately numerous number of Karens in the world, there are many types; however, today’s article features a true example of a Karen.

Caught on camera at the famous fast food chain McDonald’s is a Karen complaining about her food. She was talking about the ketchup on her burger.

The video is posted by @eviemwrites on their TikTok account with the caption “@Prince Bren970 just sent me this video of a rare Ketchup Karen in her natural habitat.” It seems like Evie just shared their friend’s video, adding to the many Karen clips captured by individuals who have encountered one of their kind.

The video instantly starts with her asking for the manager in a calm tone. Little did everyone know that the situation was yet to escalate.

As she approaches, she shows the staff her burger. “I asked for extra ketchup, and I got—” she starts.

She opens her burger, removing the top bun. This reveals the inside, filled with more ketchup than usual.

She then starts raising her voice, “What is this? What is this!?” She aggressively slams her burger on the counter, smashing the whole thing into pieces and making a mess.

“This is so much ketchup!” “I can’t eat that!” she screams as both parties—Karen, the video’s main character, and the McDonald's employees—continue engaging in a volley of screams.

One of the iconic statements in the video is Karen’s “Are you making fun of me because I’m on a diet?” Possibly second best is an employee’s “How do we know you’re on a diet??”

All this while they make an unusual hand—and arm—motion and tell them that they are upset. Perhaps an addition to the somewhat long list of notable Karen traits is the weird gestures they do that are supposed to mean something in the Karen Dictionary.

The video ends with the employees making an effort to calm her down. At least Karen spoke to the manager, right?
