Woman Set To Finalize Kitten Adoption Gets Last-Minute Call Pressuring Her To Back Out - Because A Child Got Attached
A calm rescue kitten ends up at the center of an adoption dispute.
About a month ago, a 20-year-old university student (OP) felt like everything finally lined up. She had wanted a cat for as long as she could remember, always with the intention of adopting rather than buying.
She finally had the money, a stable place to live, and support from her family. Then she came across a post about two kittens rescued from the street, and one of them immediately stood out.
The kitten was described as calm, affectionate, and oddly expressive; the kind of face you would expect to see in an old medieval painting.
Even though OP was temporarily out of the country for family reasons, she reached out right away. Thankfully, the woman caring for the kittens agreed to hold on to her chosen one until she returned.
When OP finally came back home, she wasted no time on the adoption process. She reached out again, ready to meet and bring the kitten home.
At first, everything still seemed fine. She was told the kitten was staying temporarily with a friend, and plans were made for a visit to meet her and discuss pickup details.
Then, without warning, the situation shifted. The woman currently housing the kitten explained that her little nephew and mother no longer wanted to give the kitten up.
Apparently, the child had become attached and was now crying at the idea of letting the kitty go. Instead of honoring the original agreement, she suggested helping OP find a different cat entirely.
That suggestion did not sit well with OP. After waiting a month and emotionally preparing for this specific kitten, being asked to quietly step aside felt unfair.
OP decided to table the matter before the original rescuer, who promised to step in and handle the situation.

OP clearly prepared for adoption in good faith, trusting a promise that had been in place for weeks. So, it’s easy to understand why she’s upset at this new development.
However, a majority of Netizens have pointed out that OP has never met this cat and doesn’t truly “love” it as she claims. But the little boy in question has lived with the cat and adores it genuinely, which makes his home a better fit for the cat’s well-being.
While Netizens acknowledge her right to demand that their agreement be followed through, they have advised that she consider putting the well-being of the cat first. In other words, she should look for another needy cat to adopt.
From your point of view, should the agreement stand?… or should compassion take priority in this situation, especially since a child is involved?
