Customer Exposes Kohls Black Friday Scam In Viral TikTok Video
“Someone, sound the alarm; the prices are getting hiked!”
Everyone loves a good promo. From coupons to buy one get one free deals and, of course, percentage-off sales, one thing is for sure: people will always hop on a good deal.
However, shoppers adore the Black Friday sales most of all.
In the United States, Black Friday sales traditionally mark the start of the Christmas shopping season. For many, this is a massive relief, as Christmas involves quite a lot of gift shopping, and some pennies saved help.
Research shows that in the United States alone, 115 million people shopped on Black Friday in 2021. According to Adobe, customers spent $9.12 billion shopping online during Black Friday sales in 2022.
Yet, sometimes Black Friday sales aren’t what they are cracked up to be. For in-store shoppers, it can be challenging to make their way into stores due to large crowds.
Even when they eventually get in, the stress of waiting in line and possibly not getting the items they want before they are sold out is quite frustrating.
Not to mention that some Black Friday deals are scams, and it seems one TikToker discovered one.
She shared her findings in a video that has already garnered over 320,000 views. Scroll down to read all about it!
The discovery
@trishacolwell0 / Tiktok.comA Kohls customer, Trisha Colwell, revealed in a now-viral TikTok video a price hike during the Black Friday sales of the company.
She noticed that a newer price tag had been placed over the original price of a set of Disney’s Minnie Mouse luggage.
Scam alert!
In her video, she showed the Disney luggage on sale at Kohls for 60% off. The camera then moves to the price tag, which reads $440 before the deal, bringing the total to $176 after the discount.
She then removes the sticker, revealing that the luggage had an original price tag of $319.99. In other words, a 60% discount would be much lower than $176.
Thoughts and opinions
As expected, other people shared their opinions on the matter.

The legality of the situation
Upon further research, it’s clear that while it’s possible that Kohls only increased the price because of the Black Friday sales, it’s not illegal to do so.
This is because no state law directly bans price gouging in Ohio. Unfortunately, many stores do the same thing, and unless you've been tracking the prices for that desired item, you are not going to notice it.
