Assistant Store Manager Badly Treated an Employee and Sparked a Walk-Out, Leading to a Catastrophic Chain of Events
"I will never darken the doorstep of that store again. I hope my ASM enjoyed the temporary rush of power."
There are many higher-ups for whom you’ll be grateful, even if you’re working long hours each week. These mentor-like figures are someone to lean on and wouldn’t dangle their position over your head when they want to extort something from you.
Then there are the bosses who see nothing but power. No teamwork, no work ethic, just blinding authority. The power trip they experience from abusing their privileges often makes you question why they were hired in the first place.
You might be familiar with that situation, but it’s not every day that you get the chance to exact revenge on them. So, if you need to live vicariously through someone, this OP has the right story for you.
OP has been working in her industry for about eight years. She started and continued her seven years in one branch, and during her eighth year, she was transferred to another store after deciding to move in with her best friend and her husband.
That store assumed she wanted to work part-time, so she took on another part-time job at a gym. Even then, she moved from department to department as the store was still short-staffed.
A few months after her move, her best friend's godchild was born. OP opted to take care of her whenever she could, not realizing how much a certain new assistant manager would hold that against her.
This is how OP started the post
taecodyOP recounted how she had to move from one state to another
taecodyThe store was functioning with a skeletal workforce while she pushed for a full-time job
Then OP’s godchild was born, which was a great gift.

OP made a good impression on her co-workers and continued to work hard
Everything was going well until the new assistant manager arrived.

When OP finally worked full-time with the supervisor, a lot of conflict ensued
taecody
Rumors started circulating around the workplace that OP’s niece was, in fact, her actual daughter, and there was suspicion that it was the ASM behind it
taecody
OP's problems began to pile up ever since they canceled her leave
taecody
She was in contact with her supervisor, who then tested positive, so she had to isolate, but they still hounded her with work calls
taecody
OP then had an emergency that required her to be absent from work
taecody
They called her relentlessly despite the dangerous circumstances if she returned to work
taecody
OP filed her resignation after the third strike but was blackmailed by the ASM
taecody
OP finally confirmed the source of the rumor, and the ASM didn't realize that OP's friends knew about it. They were as upset as OP
taecody
After OP quit, a series of unfortunate events unfolded for management
taecody
Department after department began to leave
taecody
This update was the last OP knew, and it was catastrophic, to say the least
taecody
OP is doing great with her new job, especially without an ASM like the last one
taecody
Redditors are very aware of how badly OP was treated by the ASM and wish her nothing but revenge as well

If OP wishes to update us, we’re all ears

Maybe it isn’t surprising to find someone like the ASM in that specific chain of stores, and OP was just lucky to have worked with better co-workers during her seven years
Slumbering_Oaf
His jaw must’ve dropped quickly, and so did his attitude
Artilleryman08
The only thing the ASM could positively contribute is the negative impact employees like her have on a company’s demise

People were surprised that OP and her co-workers weren’t stopped by the higher-ups when they tried to take matters into their own hands
Omnio89
And OP explained how they did it without being run over by unnecessary rules
taecody
If some of them decide to take legal action, then OP can consider this
wotmate
The workers didn’t deserve that treatment, and they weren’t paid enough to deal with the drama. If they can gain something positive from it, it might be worth looking into legal counsel
dackasaurus
Unfortunately, there might not be protections in place for workers in the U.S.A.
LuxNocte
If the ASM was doing all of that, where was her boss?
Pattcake321
It wasn’t the best answer
taecody
But after everything, it proved one thing

People think that power is the greatest thing they’ll have in their workplace. But OP didn’t last that long just because she was drunk on power.
It was because she treated her work and her co-workers well. They didn’t value her, though, and what workers collectively contribute to the company; that's why the chain of events sparked so quickly.
What do you think happened next to the ASM? We’d love to hear your guesses in the comments.
