25 Marvel Movie Characters Compared To Their Comic Versions

They all started from the same place, but some evolved quite a lot when moved to the big screen.

Marvel has spent years turning comic book icons into movie stars, and the results have ranged from nearly perfect to wildly different. From the first Marvel movie in 2008 to the huge lineup that followed, the franchise has kept pulling from decades of comic history for its characters, looks, and storylines.

That makes the comparisons especially fun, because some heroes and villains barely changed at all, while others were redesigned so heavily that they feel like completely different versions of the same character. Casting, costumes, and character design all played a huge role in that transformation.

16. Tony Stark

According to Dr. Terri Orbuch, a renowned relationship researcher, "Casting is crucial in bringing characters to life, and Robert Downey Jr. embodies Tony Stark in a way that resonates with audiences." We wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment, as Downey's portrayal has become iconic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

17. Black Panther

Wakanda forever! The MCU seems to have toned down King T'Challa's costume from the comics, but it also feels more stylish somehow.

18. Vision

In many cases, we find that the original bright comic colors take a moody turn in their color scheme. Vision has a very similar design between comic and movie, but his colors underwent a major change.

The first Captain America movie definitely shares a likeness to its comic book counterpart, but in later movies, Cap transitions to a more sophisticated and less kitschy costume.

Heimdall loses the fur in favor of some smart-looking leather. Otherwise, the dude still has his epic helmet and sword.

24. Ant-Man

The only noticeable difference between comic Scott and movie Scott seems to be those antennae on his helmet, which make him appear more ant-like.

25. Thor

Aside from the helmet, Thor looks almost exactly the same on-screen as he does on paper. Even Chris Hemsworth embodies the God of Thunder exceptionally well.

Some of these updates were quite drastic, but considering how dated the comics are, maybe it’s not that much of a surprise. Did you have a favorite alteration?
