Guardians of the Galaxy Encore Edition Brings an 80s Glam Rock Twist to Switch 2

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is getting another run, this time on Nintendo Switch 2. The new Encore Edition launches November 5, 2026, with platform-specific upgrades and fresh glam rock looks for the team. Pre-orders are open now for $39.99.

This is not being framed as a simple re-release. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition is a Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive edition of the single-player action-adventure game, with optimized performance, refined controls, and new outfits for Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot.

Those costumes pull from 1980s glam rock. Marvel Games also gave fans a brief look at the new looks in the X post below.

What is in the Switch 2 version

The core game comes from Eidos-Montréal, which originally launched Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in October 2021. Players step into the role of Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord, in an original story centered on the team facing a threat to the galaxy.

Gameplay blends Star-Lord's blasters with commands that trigger each Guardian's distinct abilities. Dialogue choices also play a role, shaping interactions within the group. Music remains a major part of the experience too, with licensed 1980s songs, an orchestral score, and original tracks recorded specifically for the game.

Why fans may care

The original release earned awards, including Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021, and the new version is being promoted as a return to that story-driven adventure on Nintendo's newer hardware. For Marvel and Disney fans who skipped it the first time, the change is straightforward: Switch 2 owners get the game on November 5, with visual updates to the team's wardrobe and adjustments tailored for the platform.

The release also joins a busy November for Disney-related games. Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea, a paid expansion featuring Captain Jack Sparrow, Megara, and Milo Thatch, is also on the way that month.
