Therapist's Message About Capitalism's Negative Impact On Everyone's Mental Health Is Hitting A Lot Of Nerves
We all need to know what's good for us and what's not, and this therapist tells you exactly that.
Capitalism can shape daily life in ways that are easy to ignore until the stress starts piling up. In this story, a therapist's message about that pressure is getting attention because it connects money, work, and mental health in a way a lot of people recognize.
The post argues that people are pushed into competition, scarcity, and constant comparison, and that those conditions can wear on everyone differently. It also points to the tension between wanting change and fearing it, which makes the message feel even more familiar.
That mix of frustration and honesty is exactly why the reaction has been so strong.
Meet L.S. Pearce, who is a therapist, educator, and writer with a lot of experience in addiction and mental health.
“I started my career at a homeless shelter, and later in supportive housing for people with mental illness, chemical dependency issues, and HIV, so I’ve seen a lot,” said L.S. Pearce.
She added, “And I think I can safely speak for all social workers when I say that we understand that stability is fundamental, and you can’t really help anyone with anything until they have a safe, warm place to sleep, the medical care they need to treat their mental or physical ailments, and so forth.”

pearcetherapyThere would be no term as depression if the things stated below were true.
She said, "People like to joke that we'd have flying cars by now, but I honestly think that's understated; we'd have far more advancement across every field, not just technology or transportation. Not to mention that the level of peace and happiness experienced by every person would shoot up into the stratosphere."

“People like to joke that we’d have flying cars by now, but I honestly think that’s understated; we’d have far more advancement across every field, not just technology or transportation. Not to mention that the level of peace and happiness experienced by every person would shoot up into the stratosphere,” says the therapist.

This is deep but makes so much sense if you're willing to understand.
pearcetherapy
The true meaning of capitalism, which is unfair in real life.
pearcetherapy
And now it has become a habit to live off of others.
pearcetherapy
Yet here we are, striving to reach the power or position that exploits others.
pearcetherapy
The ones in power want to remain in power for as long as possible.
pearcetherapy
But it is a rare sight because now, life is a race, and everyone wants to be on top.
pearcetherapy
It’s also like OP moving back home without notice, leaving roommates in a bind.
The therapist, who is the creator of the viral video, did not expect that the video would blow up to this extent, and she states, “Lately, I’ve just been using my TikTok to vent about societal issues in a satirical way! Most of my videos just get a few thousand views. But I think that people connected with this one because they see their lives in it.”

When there is so much stress to be ahead of everyone, then it is natural to develop mental health problems.
While talking about capitalism, she says: “Human beings are a naturally social and cooperative species. We’re hairless, we don’t have big sharp teeth or claws, and we’re not especially fast or strong in comparison to other animals. The way we’ve been able to survive and build everything we have is by banding together and working together.”

When you learn to accept, know that you are healing.
“Amazon workers (allegedly) urinating into bottles, dying on the warehouse floor while others are told to keep working, or being taken away in ambulances with heatstroke because it was cheaper for Bezos to pay to keep an ambulance on-site than just install air conditioning,” according to the theory of Pearce, which she believes that most people now know about.
“This is clearly sociopathic behavior, but under capitalism, people like this are elevated to the status of gods,” she said. “We’re not meant to live like this, to see each other in these terms, looking for ways to wring every penny of profit out of each other, out of another human being. Yet, here we are.”

And this is how the world responded to this therapist who preached about capitalism affecting our mental health.
pearcetherapy
Now that's a great idea to go about it and enjoy the little things in life.
pearcetherapy
Hold on, dude, because there is always a way out, and dying is not the ultimate option.
“We all know how that needs to happen; it’s just that right now it’s only the people on the fringes, the outskirts, that are saying it out loud.”
“We need systemic change, a massive overhaul of our systems, and a redistribution of power and resources,” Pearce suggested. “And that feels scary to many people because change is scary; new things are scary. Many people would rather stay the same—even if that ‘sameness’ is suffering and misery—than take a risk on something new.”
pearcetherapy
True that, the people in power are not going to give up their positions easily, so we need a revolution.
pearcetherapy
Umm, isn't that what archaeologists do? Okay, so he wants to be an archaeologist.
pearcetherapy
The traumas always stay with you; you never forget them, you just get over them until they hit you again.
pearcetherapy
This is the reason why therapists are known as the most solved people.
pearcetherapy
I feel this too! In fact, we all feel this way!
pearcetherapy
Don't we all want to enjoy our lives? In this fast-paced world, we are working so that in the end we can enjoy.
“I’m telling you right now that you matter—and the world would be a worse place without you in it. You have some wonderful gifts to contribute beyond whatever money you’re making for your boss; what is it? You may already know what it is, or maybe you need to take some time to find it,” says therapist Pearce, and we do believe that she is absolutely right.
pearcetherapy
It indeed hit us all really, really hard.
pearcetherapy
Maybe the coming generation will be more focused on living in the moment.
She also tells us, “During times of emergency, we humans are known for our generosity and selflessness, stepping up to help dig others out of the rubble of an earthquake, rescuing each other from floods, or offering our homes to evacuees of a fire. We can expand that community mindset into daily life rather than reserving it only for crises. Wouldn’t that be nice, to both support and be supported by your community?”

The therapist surely deserves a big thank you from all of us for this eye-opening message.

The sooner we understand the problems of capitalism, the better it is for us, our mental state, and our future. People believe in working hard to earn the pleasures of life, but the truth is, it was already ours, and it still is.
Share this story with all your loved ones and let them know about the effects of capitalism on their mental health. We can work our way out of it if we are willing to!
