25 Celebrity Couples Who Made The Met Gala Look Like An Extravagant Date Night
With this year's theme being "Gilded Glamour," celebs went all out.
The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, held on the first Monday of May. This event is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious fashion events, and celebrities across all professional spectrums, including those in film, theater, television, fashion, music, sports, business, politics, and more, look forward to a highly sought-after invitation.
The gala is organized by the fashion magazine Vogue, with a dedicated theme each year that sets the tone for the attire to be worn by attendees. The guests are expected to curate their outfits to match the theme of the event, and with access to the top designers, celebs go all out.
On the steps outside the Met, celebrities walk a red carpet swarmed with photographers and entertainment outlets to get pictures, videos, and interviews with the glammed-up stars in attendance. But after the entertaining red carpet affair, the rest of the event is largely unknown.
Yes, the event attendees get the first official tour of The Costume Institute's latest exhibit, this year titled In America: An Anthology of Fashion (the second installment of last year's exhibition, which was delayed due to COVID-19). However, the rest of the night is kept strictly under wraps, per Vogue’s strict rules, which include a no smartphone and no social media policy.
Vogue explains the rest of the event for those who aren’t on the exclusive invitation list: "The tour (is) followed closely by a formal black-tie dinner, which precedes an eagerly awaited musical performance. This is the foolproof formula for the annual Met Gala, an evening dedicated to celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s various exhibitions."
This year’s theme was “Gilded Glamour,” a concept that left lots of room for interpretation. Celebrities took advantage of that, with many attendees pulling inspiration from New York’s Gilded Age, when excess and grandiosity defined both the decades and the fashion.
We collected photos of celebrity couples from the event. Keep scrolling to see how these celebs played out “Gilded Glamour” in their white-tie attire.
