Woman Brings Mother-In-Law To Dog Sit While She And Her Husband Are Away, Finds House Upside Down
It's common for many people to have problems with their in-laws, but this one is a bit different.
Some favors come with a mess attached, and this one came with a house turned upside down. A woman asked her mother-in-law to dog sit while she and her husband were away, expecting the usual pet-sitting basics, but what she came home to was a lot more than that.
The story quickly turns into a family headache, because the problem is not just the wrecked house, it is also how her husband reacts once his mother is involved. Reddit had plenty to say about the MIL, the husband, and whether OP should ever trust her with the dogs again.
By the end, the comments are pretty united, and the whole thing gets messier the more you read.
Here's where the story begins as OP starts off her post.
carelessanarchyShe explains the situation with her MIL watching the dogs and also what she came back to from her trip.
carelessanarchyThen she explains how her husband feels about the situation, considering it was his mother.

The woman came home expecting a normal house, but instead found a situation that immediately raised the temperature in the family.
Family tension can get messy fast, especially when a favor turns into a bigger issue than anyone expected.
In this case, the house and the dogs were only part of the problem.
People immediately came for her husband, as they feel that he should step in.

Again, we see more comments discussing how the husband should definitely step up and be the one to say something.
carmelfan
People are a bit conflicted about what she should do, but they overall agree that she's NTA.

That is where the comments started zeroing in on boundaries.
If he doesn't say something to his mom, then I know I would.
WoozyRadish
It's not a bad idea to just wait until the MIL brings it up.
bethholler
OP actually responded to this one and showed her conflict regarding what she should do.

Once the house was already a disaster, the next move got even trickier.
It’s a similar tangle to the pet-sitting dispute where OP asked a friend to split the cost of damaged shoes.
It is true that if she already knew how her MIL would be, then she should've expected this.

People are recommending that she doesn't use her MIL to watch the dogs anymore since she can tell how it'll go.
Ok_East4125
The MIL is definitely TA in this situation because it was uncalled for.
Accomplished-Two3577
The comments kept circling back to the same point, this was not a one-time misunderstanding.
At that point, everyone seemed to know exactly who should be dealing with the fallout.
This comment was very helpful as it gave her a bit of something to tell her MIL in response to the note she left.
emotionallydented445
This is true too; it will give her the opportunity to play the victim.
TheQuietType84
People still seem to think that the husband should step up and say something.
Miserable-Audience33
By then, the husband was getting almost as much attention as the mother-in-law.
That is usually a sign the family drama has officially taken over.
This is a bit of a humorous comment as it refers OP to the justnoMIL thread.
CelebrationCandid363
This is true. Just choose someone else next time.
Still_Ad8530
This comment really says it all.
Jazzlike_Crew_3956
It seems that most people were in agreement about all of these three things.
Mehitable9
This is what I would automatically assume as well.

So, what do you think about this story? After reading this Reddit thread, it makes me really happy to have the MIL that I have, but I know not everyone is that lucky.
This truly shows that some situations just suck, but at least the comments agreed with each other about the MIL, OP, and OP's husband. We hope they will work things out.
The house may have been the first thing to fall apart, but the family dynamics were not far behind.
The whole thing left OP with a mess, a grudge, and a husband who still needs to step up.
