24-Year-Old Puerto Rican Model’s Dreams Came True When She Became Victoria’s Secret’s First Model With Down Syndrome

Fashion designers have traditionally chosen stunning, attractive, and physically fit models to showcase their products on the catwalk and at other less conventional fashion events. These models have established high standards for themselves—and for everyone else.
This has created a gap between the appearance of models and that of real-life individuals. However, as a society, we are progressing year after year, so it's no surprise that several major companies and modeling agencies have recently begun to include individuals with disabilities as part of their brand, providing more accurate representation on runways and magazine covers.
Today, we'd like to tell you about Sofía Jirau, a 24-year-old Puerto Rican model with Down syndrome. She made her debut at New York Fashion Week in 2020 and has made quite a name for herself in the fashion industry.
Her latest accomplishment is becoming Victoria's Secret's first model with Down syndrome. In a recent interview, she said, “I want to tell the whole world that people with my condition, Down syndrome, inside and out, we have no limits.”
After getting the job, Sofía flew all the way to Los Angeles for her campaign photoshoot for the “Love Cloud” bra collection.

She is currently focused on conquering the runways in Europe in 2022 and further growing her business. Specifically, she became an entrepreneur in 2019 by launching an online store named "Alavett," based on her favorite phrase "I love it," where she sells clothing, accessories, and home products.
