It all started with my daughter. I always took her to events, but I never thought about cosplaying because I didn't like to take pictures," explained Tia Sol in an interview with Bored Panda. "I suffered from depression, and I didn't like my appearance because I was short and chubby."

"But one day, a friend of mine asked me, 'Sol, would you dare to cosplay?' I answered yes. She even doubted it. But I went home, talked to my children, and they encouraged me! I developed the idea and researched the character that suited me," she continued.

"I settled on Granny from Looney Tunes, had the clothes, bought the wig, and I also had Sylvester the Cat and Tweety the Bird made. So, everything was ready, and I went to the event, but I couldn't get in because I was so afraid of what people might say. However, people started coming to take pictures with me. I even participated in the cosplay parade and took 1st place. I was very afraid of being rejected by teenagers, but, on the contrary, I was well received!"

"But there's also the rewarding part, which is when you arrive at the event and see people come up to you and ask to take a picture, witnessing the joy on their faces and bringing the character to life."

She says cosplay gave her a new kind of confidence.

Never stop doing what you love for fear of mean comments. Cosplay has made me love myself more; it has helped me see how beautiful I am as a person. I don't do cosplay only for events, though, I also visit hospitals and orphanages. Bringing love and joy to those who need it the most is very rewarding. Never let the child inside you die; there is no age to do what you love, and there is no age to be happy."
