The Internet Community Can’t Believe One Mom’s Creepy Rant Over Her Son's Girlfriend
"When your son’s new love is the Other Woman"
Some parents have a hard time letting go, and this story takes that problem to an uncomfortable place.
A mother wrote about her son finding a girlfriend while he was away at college, and her reaction was so intense that it left readers stunned. What should have been a normal milestone turned into a strange rant about jealousy, control, and a son growing up without her approval.
The internet had plenty to say about it, and the backlash was immediate. Read on.
One Twitter user shared this bizarre article:

How do we unread this?

Dressing up the young troublemakers and taking them to playdates are only two aspects of parenting. There are also the never-ending questions, the tantrums, the wiping (of faces, hands, bums, dribbles, snot, feces, and vomit...), and, of course, the unsolicited advice from the childless twenty-something "grownups."
Of course, there is a lot of fear and self-doubt involved. It’s fine because we signed up for all of these things when we decided to become parents.
However, taking care of our children doesn’t make us their owners. We can’t make their decisions when they grow up.
Our job is to teach them to make their own. If our adult child can’t make decisions (good or bad), then we’ve sort of failed.
To let them make their own decisions is to let them go. This woman obviously hasn't.
Her child has found a girlfriend.
That's where the rant really starts to spiral.

Some moms are not so protective of their boys. In fact, they are already trying to find them significant others.

We are taking a light approach here and don’t want to believe that the author of the article is conducting some sort of "emotional incest." We would like to believe that it’s just one mom sobbing over her son’s growing up.
However, her satisfaction with the fact that her son chose someone who resembles her is a bit disturbing. And yes, we are choosing our words carefully.
That last detail is what made people cringe the hardest.
