Disney Fan Creates Breathtaking Disney Heroine Series Inspired by the Czech Artist Alphonse Mucha
Whether or not you're familiar with Mucha or Art Nouveau, you'll easily fall in love with Hannah's designs.
If you're wondering what inspired artist Hannah Alexander to dedicate a series to Disney heroines influenced by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, she said: "I've been obsessed with Alphonse Mucha and 50s pin-up art recently, and this is the result." The first piece in her series was Ariel, and she reflected at the time that it was a style she could definitely get used to. According to Dr. Dan Siegel, psychiatrist and author, "Art has the power to connect us to our emotions and enhance our understanding of ourselves." Mucha was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist who lived in Paris during the Art Nouveau period. He is most well-known for his "distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters." Mucha created "illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, and designs, which became among the best-known images of the period." Art Nouveau has inspired quite a few Disney fans to create incredible illustrative series. Despite the fact that they were all inspired by a single style or even a single artist in time and feature characters who are well-known because of Disney, they all manage to look distinctly different and inexplicably beautiful. Hannah's series is undoubtedly no exception to this observation; her Mucha-inspired series is breathtaking. If we could muster up any complaint at all, it would be that she didn't create even more characters for us to gush over. Support the Artist: DeviantArt | Tumblr | Dr. Dan Siegel

5. Rapunzel / Freedom
"Oh my goodness, I am in love with this movie. The songs go round and round in my head like a freakin' merry-go-round! (Also, I know her hair is shorter than the original version, but I simply couldn't draw 70 ft long hair!) Flowers are: mallow - sweetness, camellia - longing, white heather - wishes come true/protection."

9. Megara / Repentance
"Megara is one of my all-time favorite Disney heroines, so I'm so happy to finally complete this piece in between commissions. Yellow tulips mean hopelessly in love, and anemone means forsaken."

10. Merida / Determination
"Flowers are day lily (Chinese symbol for mother), ferns (which mean 'magic'), foxgloves (which mean 'insincerity'), and gladiolus (which means 'strength of character')."

11. Alice / Curiosity
"Flowers - poppies (which mean sleep/dreaminess), daisies (which mean childish innocence)."

12. Ariel / Rebirth
"I chose to surround Ariel with lotus flowers because they represent rebirth. I wanted the whole piece to come out bluer, but green just came about naturally. I guess it makes sense, considering the rebirth theme anyway."

13. Elsa / Queen of Ice and Snow
"The flowers are snowdrops, and the birds are male cardinals. Ironically, snowdrops actually herald the beginning of spring."
