So I'm (30F) living in a close-knit neighborhood. Recently, a neighbor's dog ran away but was found by someone else who decided to adopt the dog.

The dog isn't microchipped, so it's hard to trace back to the original owner. Now, the previous owner is frantically searching for their beloved pet and has been asking around.

They approached me, asking if I know anything. I do, but I'm torn.

The new owner has grown attached to the dog and provided a loving home. If I share the adoption details, the original owner might demand the dog back, possibly causing heartbreak for the new owner and the dog who has settled in well.

Plus, legally, the dog has become the new owner's. However, if I keep this information to myself, the original owner would continue to suffer not knowing what happened to their pet.
