The original Power Rangers are being turned into their 90s Zords in BOOM Studios' next comic twist
BOOM Studios' new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers arc turns the team into Zord inspired creatures. Issue #6 arrives Nov. 25, then #7 on Dec. 30.
A new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic arc is taking one of the franchise's most familiar ideas and flipping it inside out. Instead of simply calling on their classic Dinozords, the original team appears set to become the creatures behind them.
The change arrives in BOOM Studios' new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series from Marguerite Bennett and Phillip Sevy. Connecting covers by Sevy show each Ranger next to a new animal form, and the summary released for issue #7 points to a bigger reveal: the Rangers are not just dealing with living Zords, they are seemingly being transformed into them.
Issue #7 is described as the second half of a two part story in which the team is trapped in its Zord forms and cannot change back. While they are stuck that way, Rita Repulsa's newest monster goes on a rampage. That villain is called the Trauma Dumpster, and its attack is said to force people to tell their darkest secrets. The synopsis also says Tommy has a theory about why the Rangers are trapped and believes he knows how to return them to human form.
The setup follows another character focused beat in issue #6, which is said to show Jason worrying that he may no longer be the right leader for the team. The new series has been described as an adult era take on the original Rangers, with monsters tied to regrets and trauma, and this storyline appears to make that theme much more literal.
For readers, the rollout is close. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #6 is scheduled for November 25, followed by issue #7 on December 30.

Why this hits a 90s nostalgia nerve
The Dinozords have been central to Power Rangers memory since Mighty Morphin debuted in 1993. On the television series, each Ranger piloted a giant machine based on a dinosaur, prehistoric animal or dragon, and those Zords could join together as the Dino Megazord. The original footage came from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, which placed limits on how the show could use them on screen.
In comics, that restriction is gone, and BOOM's latest move pushes the concept into stranger territory. The team now appears to be taking on the forms tied to those Zords, including Trini as a saber toothed tiger inspired creature and, if the covers are any guide, a dragon version of Tommy as well.
It is not the first recent remix of a classic Zord. Power Rangers Green by Pallie Paul Allor and Gustaffo Vargas featured an older Tommy Oliver living in exile and retirement, with the shattered Dragonzord serving as his home under the name the Dragon's Grave. But this new story goes further by making the original heroes themselves the monsters, beasts and dragons at the center of the action.
