Redditor's Co-Worker Thinks She's Rude For Not Answering When She's Called By A Different Nickname
Don't you just hate it when they get your name wrong on purpose? After you told them a bunch of times that it's not your name.
Nicknames are sometimes more familiar than our actual names. We hear them often enough, and they can be more special or an easier way to say our names.
Either one of those may be the case; one thing's for sure: it's very annoying when you get called the wrong nickname over and over again. Names are a big part of our identity, and it's a bit unsettling when someone gets it wrong on purpose.
Strangers that you might not see again getting it wrong? It could be chalked up as a mistake, right?
But a co-worker who insists that the nickname they give you is the right one and that you shouldn't fight it? It kind of rubs you the wrong way, doesn't it?
An OP posted with a throwaway account on Reddit as she tried to see if people would think of her as the asshole while recounting the incident. In the subreddit r/AITA, OP told Redditors a little information about her name and her nickname, which no one had a problem with.
Then one day, a newbie came along—someone related to one of the business owners—and called her a different name because she thought it was 'prettier.' OP told the new employee flat out that she didn't like it, but she didn't listen. This is how the incident started to play out.
This is the 'AITA' question
Office_Drama5686OP doesn't think she's the a**hole, but one of her coworkers thinks otherwise
Office_Drama5686OP laid out the information about how her name came about and the people who played a role in how the new employee came into the company
Office_Drama5686
The new employee tried to give OP a different name right away, and when OP pointed out that she wouldn't answer to that name, the new employee waved it off
Office_Drama5686
OP was true to her word and didn't answer whenever she was called 'Bessie'
Office_Drama5686
When the new employee tried to rally some people to her side with the nickname calling, OP immediately prevented it
Office_Drama5686
The new employee was relentless and did something that would annoy not only OP but also the whole office space. Here is where one of the key characters in this story came in
Office_Drama5686
Dave, one of the partners, tried to get the new employee to stop after he got frustrated with the noise
Office_Drama5686
Megan then confronted OP in the break room for getting her in trouble and kicked up the nickname calling a notch, which Dave saw
This was how Dave's warning followed through. Lisa appeared to be on Megan's side, and although she never called OP by the unwanted nickname, she thinks OP should've just relented.

The majority of the votes were for OP not being the a**hole

Dave must've met her a couple of times

Watch them post all about 'Megan' with different sides
KetoLurkerHere
Because we all saw how annoying Megan is and would probably talk Jeff's ear off about what happened
Purple-Valuable-5245
Dave was fair for not showing bias just because Megan was his business partner's niece
Emmyxo212
Then at least Lisa knows who to side with

If OP were to be petty, this is one of the ways to shut Megan up
FantasticDecisions
Well, if they can do it, why can't you?
hdmx539
Lisa projecting her annoyance onto OP sounds like she either doesn't want to be Megan's next target or is scared to get in trouble

Luckily, Dave was there during the most annoying moments

She broke that rule a long time ago

She thinks that since she can get whatever she wants because she is related to the owner, then she can do as she pleases

Did the story give you flashbacks from this show?

Maybe Megan's a mean girl in disguise

Yeah, Megan, 'Bessie' is not going to happen

This route of pettiness might fuel the fire

There wasn't really an update on whether Megan continued to torment OP with the nickname or found another way to do a power trip. What OP did was not tolerate a bad attitude from the start.
If she had relented, Megan might have seen it instantly as her being superior to OP. Lisa might not totally be the TA in this situation, but she settles more in the gray area.
