Man Spends Over $3,000 At Best Buy But Refuses To Pay 11 Cents For A Bag
This TikTok went viral simply because this man refused to purchase a bag for $0.11 after spending over $3,000 there.
We know that checkouts in stores are changing a lot lately, from making more conscious decisions to eliminate plastic bags to having more self-checkouts than ever before. Regardless, we can all agree that things in stores are evolving, and it can be hard to keep up at times.
With that being said, we have also heard many different complaints from people who don't seem to enjoy these changes being implemented in stores. So, this guy took to TikTok to explain his situation and why he felt that this incident could have been avoided.
We understand that not everyone will be happy with the changes, but I think this guy has a point in being a little upset that they're charging for bags like that at the checkout. Ultimately, we have no choice but to conform to some of the changes taking place in the stores we visit regularly.
We wanted to shed some light on this video that went viral after this man, a CEO of a company, went into Best Buy and purchased over $3,000 worth of electronics for himself, only to be asked to pay for his bags, which he refused.
Let's dive in and see what he had to say about all of this.
This dad went to Best Buy and purchased quite a lot of electronics. He went to TikTok to share the story of how he was asked to pay for a bag.
You can see him and his sons in the video holding many electronics in their hands as they walk out of the store.
@mattplappMany people thought that the video was originally to boast about their haul, but it turns out he was filming to talk about the bag incident.
“So this is us carrying $3,200 in gear … out of Best Buy. No bag, because after we paid, we were told it’s 11 cents for a bag,” he says in the now-viral video.
“What are you doing to give your customers a less-than-stellar experience?” Matt added in the caption.
@mattplappHe explains himself a little more after going viral.
People needed a bit more information on what he was actually upset about. But Matt states that he wasn't upset that the bags cost money; rather, he was frustrated that it wasn't mentioned until they were checking out.
@mattplapp
It seems like people had an issue with him "beefing with a company over 11 cents."
“I have zero issues with them charging for bags,” he wrote. “I pay for bags at businesses all the time. My point was that it wasn’t mentioned until after we had already paid for the five items, at which point I’m not pulling money out of my pocket to buy an 11-cent bag.”

It seems like people weren't letting up, but he had more to say.
He continued by adding, “The second point is that when someone spends $3,200 on five items, the cashier handing them a bag regardless should be part of their business practice.”
jdubz125
People suggested bringing their own bags.

He was more upset that it was a new practice and he didn't know this was going to be the case.
diamndzngunz
Clearly, everyone had the same thought about him complaining.
jabree37b
I mean, this is true too, though.
tico.wright
I think that's the purpose.
hot_jesus
It was probably necessary for them, but it was asked after they had already paid.
thelakhia
People were wondering about the purpose.
vicabee83
He probably did need the bag but wasn't pulling out his wallet again.
chunkyb3
Yeah. I don't think so.

Here is the original TikTok video.
Now that he's explained a bit more, I think we understand what the issue is. However, at first, people were quite confused about what his actual issue was with paying for the bags.
What do you think about this, and were his feelings valid in this situation? Bag or no bag?
Is it a matter of principles?
