Man Spends Over $3,000 At Best Buy But Refuses To Pay 11 Cents For A Bag

This TikTok went viral simply because this man refused to purchase a bag for $0.11 after spending over $3,000 there.

A dad just tried to leave Best Buy with $3,200 worth of electronics, and somehow the whole saga turned into an argument over an 11-cent bag. He even filmed himself and his sons walking out holding all that gear, expecting the story to be about the haul. Instead, the real plot twist was what happened after the purchase, when the cashier asked for a bag fee like it was a surprise pop quiz.

Here’s where it gets messy: he says they paid for five items, then got told they needed to pay extra for a bag. He wasn’t mad that bags cost money, he was mad that the charge supposedly wasn’t mentioned until checkout was already done. And once the video hit TikTok, people piled on, with plenty of folks rolling their eyes at the idea of “beefing with a company over 11 cents.”

Now he’s left wondering if he’s actually the problem, or if the timing of that bag request is what rubbed everyone the wrong way.

This dad went to Best Buy and purchased quite a lot of electronics. He went to TikTok to share the story of how he was asked to pay for a bag.

You can see him and his sons in the video holding many electronics in their hands as they walk out of the store.

Many people thought that the video was originally to boast about their haul, but it turns out he was filming to talk about the bag incident.

“So this is us carrying $3,200 in gear … out of Best Buy. No bag, because after we paid, we were told it’s 11 cents for a bag,” he says in the now-viral video.

“What are you doing to give your customers a less-than-stellar experience?” Matt added in the caption.

He explains himself a little more after going viral.

People needed a bit more information on what he was actually upset about. But Matt states that he wasn't upset that the bags cost money; rather, he was frustrated that it wasn't mentioned until they were checking out.

It seems like people had an issue with him "beefing with a company over 11 cents."

“I have zero issues with them charging for bags,” he wrote. “I pay for bags at businesses all the time. My point was that it wasn’t mentioned until after we had already paid for the five items, at which point I’m not pulling money out of my pocket to buy an 11-cent bag.”

It seems like people weren't letting up, but he had more to say.

He continued by adding, “The second point is that when someone spends $3,200 on five items, the cashier handing them a bag regardless should be part of their business practice.”

He was more upset that it was a new practice and he didn't know this was going to be the case.

Clearly, everyone had the same thought about him complaining.

This is similar to a split-bill dinner where one person paid only their own expensive meal.

I mean, this is true too, though.

It was probably necessary for them, but it was asked after they had already paid.

When Matt and his sons are seen carrying that massive Best Buy haul, you can almost hear the comments forming in advance.

Right after he says the charge came up only after they paid for the five items, the whole thing stops sounding like “a bag” and starts sounding like a bait-and-switch.

Then Matt clarifies he’s fine paying for bags, but he draws the line at pulling out his wallet again for something that should have been mentioned upfront.

After people suggest bringing their own bags, Matt’s point lands even harder, because the issue is really about a new surprise policy, not the price tag.

Now that he's explained a bit more, I think we understand what the issue is. However, at first, people were quite confused about what his actual issue was with paying for the bags.

What do you think about this, and were his feelings valid in this situation? Bag or no bag?

Is it a matter of principles?

For $3,200 in gear, an 11-cent bag is less about the cents and more about the timing.
