Wedding Couple Makes Guests Pay For Their Own Food And Gets Ripped To Pieces Over It

Technically, anyone can do whatever they want with their wedding, but we didn't expect this to happen.

A wedding invitation is usually a sign that someone wants you there to celebrate, not to cover the bill. So when one TikToker showed an invite that asked guests to pay for their own food, people had a lot to say.

The couple behind the invitation clearly had a very different idea of wedding etiquette, and the reaction was immediate. Some viewers were shocked by the request, while others could not believe it was even being considered for a wedding at all.

That one line on the invite turned a simple celebration into a full-blown debate. Here's the full story.

This TikToker showed off a wedding invitation that she received where the request surprised her completely.

She displayed the invitation she received, which stated at the bottom, "Pay for your own meal." Ultimately, this couple is inviting guests to their wedding but asking them to pay for their own food when they arrive.

I'm sure this guest wasn't the only one taken aback by this.

Ultimately, if you can't pay for the food at your wedding, then perhaps you shouldn't be having a wedding, consider different food options, or invite fewer people. No matter what, I don't think that asking guests to pay for their own food was the right choice.

We can all relate to this comment because we have definitely never heard of or been to a wedding that was BYOF.

It reminds me of the AITA host who charged friends for a gourmet dinner.

We can imagine that a lot of people will decline this offer simply because of this request.

Some people said they wouldn't attend, and others even called it tacky that they included this request.

Here is the original TikTok video where she shows the wedding invitation and what it says.

I think this is definitely a first for many of us, and I hope it doesn't start a new tradition of "BYO" or paying for your own items at a wedding. Ultimately, many people are traveling or attending, of course, for the couple, but certain things are almost expected at weddings, and food is one of those things.

What do you think about this, and would you have attended the wedding?
