It's kind of hard to talk about being 'poor' these days without someone telling you that you're privileged purely because you were born in or are living in a first-world country. Don't get me wrong; if you're reading this, you have access to a computer and the Internet, and you are probably luckier than many people in the world. However, it's not as simple as that.

The thing is, it's still very easy to be born into and grow up in extreme poverty in the Western world—and it doesn't make you ungrateful or blind to your privilege if you want to admit that it kind of sucks.
