For the OP, it was his son who chose to be a racist, and he wasn't having it. The thing is, the OP and his ex-wife got divorced years ago, and they have a 15-year-old son.

Both have moved on with different partners, but they still co-parent peacefully. In fact, the OP and his girlfriend visited his ex and her new husband because he wanted his son's birthday to be nice for him with both of his parents present.

OP's son got a lot of money from his birthday, but later on, OP saw a conversation on his phone, and it was very vulgar. It was full of racist comments coming from his son and his best friend.
