Girlfriend Meets Boyfriend's Family For The First Time Then Accidentally Reveals The Mom Cheated On The Dad
When you think you have it bad, at least you're not this girlfriend... or the dad.
Meeting your significant other's parents for the first time is always a big deal. It's considered a significant milestone for any relationship.
Our original poster's (OP's) meet-the-parents scenario didn't exactly go as she planned. OP, who was 18 at the time, was dating a boy named Jacob, who was the same age as her.
Jacob's parents asked if he could bring OP along for a family dinner so they could get to know her. Although they had only been dating for a month, OP agreed to the parents' request.
OP described Jacob's family as a typical Southern suburban family. His dad is a mechanic, and his mother is a stay-at-home mom. OP also met Jacob's older brother, as well as the sister who brought her baby.
The dinner went smoothly, and OP was regaling the family with stories about her volunteer work at their university's blood drive. The dad chimed in that his doctor told him he was a universal donor and had an O- blood type.
Jacob also mentioned that he had an O blood type as well, and his older siblings both stated their blood type was AB. OP knew from Jacob's stories that their mom had been widowed from a previous marriage.
OP wasn't really surprised that the siblings had different blood types because of this. To say that the following conversation was explosive would be putting it mildly.
OP unknowingly stepped on a landmine and created a permanent rift in her boyfriend's family. If you think you have a memorable meet-the-parents story, OP's experience will change your mind.
Here's the very intriguing title of the post:

After chatting about OP's charity work with the university blood bank, the following conversation ensued:

As it turns out, the mom had no children with her previous husband.
OP's knowledge of biology uncovered a family secret that the mom had been keeping for decades! Even after swearing in front of a pastor that she would never cheat on her husband, the mom did!
QueenOfPassAgress
OP had to hold an impromptu biology lesson for the dad to explain the science behind blood types.
QueenOfPassAgress
OP opened a can of worms and basically 'noped' out of the situation.

Jacob's dad is actually not Jacob's dad. The other two are not his either. He and his wife got divorced after the cursed dinner.
QueenOfPassAgress
OP clarified how Jacob's family casually knows their blood type.

Reddit users were equally mortified, entertained, and hooked by OP's story.

What are the chances that 3 out of the 4 people in the world with this rare anomaly were sitting with OP at the dinner table?

Poor Jacob's dad.
Absolutefury
Lots and lots of therapy, preferably one without a pastor.

This is a good dad right here.

It would be totally inappropriate if OP had popcorn... would it, though?

Another responded that OP was the master of this sinking ship.

Picture that meme of the kid smiling as she watched the burning house.

Drop the mic, OP.

Lesson: don't let your children date OP. Better yet, don't cheat!

The truth will always come out, no matter what.

A punny exchange was had.

Can you imagine being in OP's shoes? Just discussing interesting scientific facts and stumbling across all the drama?
redbucket75
To be a fly on the wall during that dinner.
lawthor
Very sad to know this is not uncommon.

A curious Redditor asked what the aftermath was like for OP.
MisterRedStyx
Apparently, she felt awful afterward...

... and she has a PSA for all of us.

No matter how bad your day is going, at least you're not OP, who unintentionally opened Pandora's box. Nor are you Jacob and his siblings, who just received a life-changing revelation.
Most of all, at least you're not the dad who not only found out his wife cheated on him (three times) and lied about it, but he also lost three children whom he loved and raised.
Wherever these people are, we hope they're getting the healing they need. Learn from OP's experience and don't talk about blood types at the dinner table!
