4-Year-Old Freaks Out In A Nail Salon After Tagging Along With Her Pregnant Mother And Seeing A Nail File
Spoiler: “The look” didn’t work
Have you ever had a stressful week where a storm knocked down a tree in your house, your internet connection was cut off, and you accidentally bought an overpriced used car—all while being pregnant? If not, then luck is on your side; if you have, then maybe you might just be this Redditor’s wife.
A hectic week like that warrants relaxation afterward, especially if somewhere in the mix of days is your birthday. A Redditor posted under the subreddit ‘Today I Fucked Up’ about the mishap that occurred when he scheduled a pedicure for his wife on her birthday.
OP enumerated the chaos that ensued before his wife’s birthday, which ultimately led to it being pushed to the back burner. Although his wife wasn’t one to make a fuss, he wanted to show his appreciation, as she was a great partner and mother.
He thought a surprise pedicure would be great, and she could take their 4-year-old with her since she mentioned that she would like to spend more time with their daughter. They loved the activity of painting their nails together, and OP thought there would be no harm in the plan.
Unexpectedly, things took a downturn that day, leaving them confused and their daughter hysterical. They eventually discovered the reason for their daughter’s outburst, and it wasn’t what OP thought at all.

Halfway into the mother-and-daughter pedicure session, OP’s wife called him and told him their daughter wanted him to get her. She was apparently screaming and wasn’t being very nice to the staff, despite their efforts to calm her down.
It was out of character for their child, as OP described her as pretty chill and shy. Eventually, his wife managed to calm her down and took her out for a treat to make her feel comfortable after the experience.
At home, they had their discussion and soon found out that the reason their daughter was overwhelmed and acted differently was that she didn’t want to get the pedicure. When asked why, she said that she saw the nail file and immediately thought they were going to cut off her toes, but she was too scared to speak up.
OP clarified why he really thought he messed up, and it wasn't because he let their daughter tag along

It was for not explaining that no one was actually there to saw off her toes
iTzbr00tal
There wasn't really any mess-up in the story if you look at it
Yikidee
It does make for a good story that they can retell until their daughter is old enough to get annoyed with it

It's worth another go, and maybe this time she'll enjoy it

Some Redditors thought that OP should have planned a day out for his wife without their daughter

But OP reiterated time and time again that their daughter is pretty mellow

And the intention was for his wife and daughter to bond, which his wife wanted in the first place

The tantrum was out of character for their daughter and was provoked by fear, not bad behavior

They were among the most understanding staff and deserve a laugh too

They handled it like pros, and their daughter was comfortable enough to talk about it afterward

Yikes! That sounds close to the sawing toes dilemma OP's daughter had

It could've gone either way; kids can surprise you

They can end up loving a spa day, which would be a good bonding option for them and their parents

Every birthday, to be exact, or every time they go to the salon

A hilarious one at that

This seems like a safer bet if your kids are going to try something new

Kids are some of the most unpredictable creatures. You think you'll know what their reaction will be when life throws you a curveball, and soon you find them freaking out in a nail salon.
OP and his wife handled the situation with good communication. Fortunately, the staff was very understanding and helped their daughter calm down.
