Viral Tweet Sparks Debates About Returning Money Found In A Thrift Shop Item And People Are Torn Between Points

Is this a "finders keepers" kind of situation, or would your morals say otherwise?

Honesty has always been highly regarded in the moral realm, and in certain situations where we need to weigh what is the right thing to do, it plays a vital role. The concept of "lost and found" has long been instilled in our society, and finding lost items indeed triggers our moral reasoning, especially when the situation comes with specific conditions.

For example, if you find a wallet stuffed with cash while walking home and there's no one around, what would you do? Would you return it or keep it?

If you decide to return it, to whom would you return it when you have no idea who the owner is? Questions like these resurfaced when one Twitter user shared with the Internet that her son bought a book at Goodwill and found $500 between the pages.

She then asked people on the Internet what they would do in her son's situation. Given that the money was found inside an item purchased from a thrift store, people are torn on which path to choose, and some of them are making valid points.

This one makes a great point, too! It would be wonderful if he could donate a percentage of that money while still keeping a good amount for himself.

A hundred percent yes. There are many real charities out there that need more help than Goodwill. Better to give it to them.

True, the money isn't explicitly stated to be for Goodwill, anyway. Come to think of it, they already have substantial profits, so why not just accept it?

This one disagrees, however. It seems like donating is the common denominator for all these points, and we're not complaining.

Finding a decent amount of cash in an item you bought for less than a dollar is a sure blessing, whether it is stashed inside the pages of a book or crumpled up in a thrift jacket. While keeping it may be great for you, it is also a wholesome act to give back even just a portion of it, allowing others to feel the blessing, too.
