A Nearly Forgotten Return of the Jedi Speeder Bike Toy Is Now Up for Auction
A rare Kenner and Huffy Star Wars speeder bike trike from a 1984 sweepstakes is now listed at Heritage Auctions for $1.
A Star Wars collectible tied to Return of the Jedi has resurfaced in a form many fans have likely never seen. Heritage Auctions now has a ride-on speeder bike trike listed at $1, reviving a promotional item that was never a regular store release.
The unusual item is a child-sized trike styled after the Imperial speeder bikes seen in the Endor chase in Return of the Jedi. It is not a screen-used vehicle or a full replica, but a rideable toy made through a collaboration between Huffy and Kenner.
That makes the listing notable for collectors who focus on obscure Star Wars merchandise rather than the usual action figures and playsets. If you are curious, the clip below accompanies the story, but the key update is simple: this hard-to-find promotional piece is now up for auction.
Why this speeder bike is so hard to find
This was not a toy that shoppers could pull off a shelf in 1984. It was created for the 1984 Speeder Bike Sweepstakes, a promotion that gave fans a chance to win a speeder for their children while also giving retailers a large display item meant to attract attention and encourage Kenner toy purchases.
Because of that limited distribution, only sweepstakes winners initially received one. The toy was never widely sold at retail, which helps explain why it remains difficult to spot even in large and carefully built Star Wars collections. Its size also works against it as a display collectible. Unlike boxed figures or vehicles, this is a much bigger piece that does not easily fit on a shelf or in a case.
The auctioned example is described as unsealed and ungraded. Even so, it reportedly shows only a few signs of wear and tear, which stands out for an item built to be ridden rather than simply displayed.

More than a shell on a trike frame
What makes the toy especially interesting is how much effort appears to have gone into its design. Rather than just placing a decorative body over a standard tricycle, the frame was altered to work with the wider seat of the speeder shell. The handlebars were also made to emerge from underneath the shell in a way that echoes the vehicle from the film.
There is additional structure at the front to suggest the speeder bike's extended nose, giving the whole piece a more thought-out look than a simple promotional giveaway might suggest. It is still not an exact match for its on-screen counterpart, but for dedicated Star Wars fans, that may be beside the point. As an unusual Kenner promotional item with a direct link to Return of the Jedi, it stands out as a collectible many fans may never have known existed until now.
