Rick Moranis Returns to Hollywood After 23 Years to Appear in Ryan Reynolds' New Ad
"We’re so grateful he came back and hope he stays back."
Rick Moranis is back on screen, and for longtime fans, that alone is enough to stop the scroll. The catch is that his return comes in a 30-second Mint Mobile ad with Ryan Reynolds, not a full Hollywood comeback.
The spot pairs two very different kinds of star power, with Reynolds pitching a new unlimited phone plan and Moranis making a rare appearance after years away from acting. For viewers who grew up on Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, it is a nostalgic surprise. Moranis stepped away from Hollywood in 1997 after the death of his wife, Ann Belsky, and focused on raising their two children.
Now the ad has people talking for more than one reason, and the reaction has been almost as entertaining as the reunion itself.
"It's hard to believe that Mint Mobile has gone so long without an unlimited plan," Ryan starts off the ad.
Ryan Reynolds"So, to introduce it, we brought in an actor we've all gone too long without: Rick Moranis."
Ryan Reynolds"So why am I here?" Rick asks after Ryan mentions that he won't need to promote the plan.
"I'm a huge fan. Massive," Ryan says with a beaming smile.
"That's it?" Rick asks, before adding, "See ya."

"Like many Canadians and humans, I adore and worship Rick Moranis," Ryan gushed.
"From Strange Brew to Ghostbusters to Spaceballs to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, his performances and lines are burned into my brain and heart. We asked Rick to do this eight days before our shoot, kind of on a lark, but after a few emails and a conversation, he agreed."
"And it was wonderful. Everyone on set was completely star-struck, most of all me. We’re so grateful he came back and hope he stays back."
Fingers crossed he does! Rumor has it Rick is planning to appear in Disney's upcoming Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot.
