Marvel’s Halloween switch-up put Robert Downey Jr. in Fantastic Four blue and Pedro Pascal behind Doctor Doom’s mask

Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal traded Doctor Doom and Mister Fantastic looks for Halloween ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel fans got an unexpected costume twist for Halloween. Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal briefly swapped their upcoming Avengers: Doomsday identities, turning a simple dress-up gag into a neat preview of the movie’s biggest face-off.

Downey, set to play Victor von Doom, dressed in the blue Fantastic Four suit tied to Pascal’s Reed Richards. Pascal went the other way, wearing Doctor Doom’s metal mask and hooded cape. The reveal arrived in an Instagram post from Downey, captioned, “Victor. Richard. Costume swap!”

In the clip below, Downey starts by covering his face with both hands while Pascal stays hidden behind Doom’s mask. They then uncover themselves to show the role reversal. It is a quick joke, but it lands at a moment when both actors are central to Marvel’s next major release.

What it means for Avengers: Doomsday

The Halloween bit points directly at Avengers: Doomsday, where Downey and Pascal are due to appear as Doctor Doom and Mister Fantastic. The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2026.

Marvel has framed the movie as a crossover bringing together heroes from three separate universes. That makes even a small seasonal stunt like this feel aimed at fans already watching how these characters will share the screen.

A separate Instagram Reel also showed the pair walking arm in arm along a street at night. As they approached the camera, Pascal lifted Doom’s mask before the two continued on together.

The costume swap was not Downey’s only Marvel Halloween post. He also shared an Avengers: Doomsday themed illustration inspired by It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, with a Doctor Doom trick-or-treater getting a rock from the Thing.

The timing is simple. The change was for this year’s Halloween festivities, and it lands ahead of Doomsday’s December release. For Marvel followers, the immediate takeaway is that two of the film’s most prominent stars are already leaning into the contrast between Reed Richards and Victor von Doom, even if only for a night of trick-or-treating.

Marvel recently pushed the lighter side of its ensemble elsewhere too, with a preview built around Scott Lang fumbling his way through addressing Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and John Walker in the “Captains America” teaser.
