Roommate Wants My Cat Declawed: AITA for Refusing?
AITA for refusing my roommate's demand to declaw my cat? Roommate wants it for comfort, but I prioritize Luna's well-being over her comfort.

Are you willing to put your foot down for your furry companion? In a recent turn of events, a Reddit user sought advice after a clash with their roommate over the declawing of their beloved kitten.
The OP, a devoted cat parent, found themselves in a predicament when their roommate, who values tidiness and control, proposed declawing the playful kitten named Luna due to her scratching habits. Despite explaining the ethical concerns and offering alternative solutions, the roommate took matters into her own hands, sparking a heated confrontation.
The post resonated with Redditors, prompting a flurry of opinions on the matter. Some sided with the cat owner, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing Luna's well-being and denouncing declawing as inhumane.
Others empathized with the roommate's discomfort and urged finding a compromise that considers everyone's needs while ensuring the cat's welfare. The debate touched upon boundaries, respect, and communication in shared living spaces, shedding light on the complexities of pet ownership and roommate dynamics.
The thread highlights the challenges of balancing personal beliefs, pet care, and interpersonal relationships under one roof. As the discussion unfolds, it raises thought-provoking questions about responsibility, empathy, and the ethical treatment of animals in domestic settings.

I (27F) have been living with my roommate, let's call her Jenny, for about a year now. We get along pretty well and share a cute apartment.
Quick context: Jenny is a neat freak, loves everything tidy, and is a bit of a control freak too. About a month ago, I adopted a sweet, playful kitten named Luna.
Luna is my little fur baby, and she brings me so much joy. However, Jenny has been bothered by Luna's scratching.
Luna is a typical kitten, loves to play, and sometimes scratches the furniture. Jenny asked me if I would consider declawing Luna.
I was shocked at the suggestion and immediately refused. I explained that declawing is a painful and unnecessary procedure that I don't support.
I told Jenny that we can get scratching posts, nail caps, and train Luna instead. I thought she understood.
Fast forward to yesterday, I came home to find Jenny researching declawing procedures, vets, and costs. I was furious.
I confronted her, asking why she was going behind my back. She said that she couldn't stand the scratching anymore, and declawing Luna was the only solution.
She even mentioned that her friend declawed their cat, and it turned out fine. I was appalled.
I told her that it's not happening and that Luna's well-being comes first. She got upset and accused me of prioritizing a pet over her comfort.
Now, Jenny is giving me the silent treatment. She's avoiding me and spends most of her time in her room.
I feel like there's tension in the apartment, and I don't want things to escalate. So, Reddit, I love my cat, but am I the a*****e for not giving in to my roommate's demands regarding Luna's claws?
