Baby showers, much like bachelorette parties, have become a tradition. At baby showers, guests are welcome to bring gifts for the mom to use once the baby is born; it's generally a wholesome and thoughtful event.
A drama unfolded at one Reddit user's baby shower. OP (original poster) is a 27-year-old pregnant woman who is expecting her first child with her husband of three years.
Their family and friends recently threw OP a baby shower. They gave her a variety of gifts consisting mostly of items essential for infant care, which OP appreciated.
OP kept all of the gifts in their storage room, only to wake up the next day and find all of the gifts missing. OP rightfully freaked out upon seeing nothing and called her husband.
He wasn't answering her calls, so OP just waited for him to get home. Once home, OP saw him holding a wad of cash in his hands as she recounted the story of the missing baby shower gifts.
He nonchalantly told her that he sold all of the gifts—items worth hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in total, like diapers, pacifiers, pajamas, books, and baskets; he sold them all without thinking twice.
She asked him why he did that, and to OP's disbelief, he said he had to sell the gifts to help his friend fix his van for their trip the following week.
She yelled at her husband for his inconsiderate actions
OP yelled that they needed those things for their baby, but her husband said they didn't since they already had a nursery full of essentials. Besides, he had no choice but to help fix the van because his friends threatened to exclude him from the trip if he didn't.
They fought, and OP's husband told her that she was overreacting. She then told everyone about what her husband did, and he began receiving calls and messages calling him out for his behavior.
He then yelled at his pregnant wife for exposing him and acting immaturely by tattling to everyone they knew. He also said it's his baby too; therefore, he was entitled to half of those gifts.
He accused OP of misrepresenting the story in order to gain sympathy and ruin his reputation in the process. Since then, he has been staying with his friend and refusing to return OP's calls until she "corrects" the narrative.
