Should I Let My Homeless Brother Move Back In After Trashing My House? AITA?

AITA for refusing to let my homeless brother move back in after he trashed my house last time? Family pressures me but I stand my ground.

Some people don’t recognize a favor, and this story is the perfect example. A 24-year-old woman worked her butt off to buy and fix up her own small house, only to let her 31-year-old brother move in “for a couple months.”

He promised it would be temporary, he promised he’d save up fast, and he promised he’d follow rules. Then he didn’t pay a dime, trashed the place, brought loud friends over at all hours, borrowed her car without asking, and even let his secret dog pee all over her brand-new rug.

Now he’s homeless again, claiming he has a new job lined up in the same area and begging to crash while he “gets stable,” and the family is pressuring her to risk round two.

Original Post

I (24F) own a small house I worked my ass off to buy and fix up. My brother (31M) has always been a total mess with jobs and life in general.

Last year he begged to stay with me, just a couple months, because he'd landed a good job right here in our state, super close to my house. He swore he'd save up quick and move out on his own. He never paid anything, trashed the place, had loud friends over all hours, borrowed my car without asking, and let his secret dog pee everywhere including my new rug.

He ended up losing that job anyway, and after months of h**l, I kicked him out. Now he's homeless again, but he says he's got another job lined up in the exact same area and is crying that he needs a place to crash while he "gets stable." Swears he's changed and will follow rules this time.

I said no I can't handle that stress and damage again. He called me heartless.

Aunt and cousins are guilting me hard about family coming first and second chances. My friends say I'm right to protect my home and sanity.

She already watched her brother trash her house, ruin her rug with his dog, and rack up chaos, so his “I swear I’ve changed” pitch hits different.

The last time he had a job nearby, he still lost it, and the months of hell that followed are exactly why she kicked him out.

Even though her aunt and cousins are guilt-tripping her with “family comes first,” her friends are backing her for once, because they’ve seen what happens when she caves.

Now he’s showing up again, crying that he needs a place to crash, while she’s trying to protect the only home she actually fought for.

Nobody wants to gamble with their home after the brother who wrecked it swears he’ll be better this time.
