Should I Reveal My Friends Secret Crush to Our Mutual Friend? A Moral Dilemma

"WIBTA for revealing my friend's secret crush on another friend despite their request for confidentiality? Need advice on navigating a delicate friendship dilemma."

Some secrets are harmless until they show up at a party wearing a name tag. This one starts with Alex, your boy who’s been crushing on Emily for months, and ends with you standing in the middle of two conversations that both feel way too personal.

You promised Alex you’d keep his feelings locked down, then Emily drops a little bomb at a gathering, saying she’s into someone but won’t say who. When Alex practically lights up and tells you he’s hoping it’s him, you think you’re just caught in the middle. Then Emily pulls you aside and straight-up asks if Alex has feelings for her, like she already suspects something.

Now you’re stuck choosing between loyalty to Alex and the risk of betraying Emily’s trust.

So I'm (27M) in a tight spot and need some advice. Let me give you some context.

My friend, let's call him Alex, has had a crush on another friend of ours, let's call her Emily, for months now. He's confided in me about his feelings and asked me to keep it between us, which I agreed to do.

However, recently at a gathering, Emily mentioned that she's interested in someone but didn't disclose who. Later on, Alex approached me and expressed his hopes that it might be him.

He seemed elated and optimistic. The dilemma is that during a separate conversation with Emily, she specifically asked me if Alex had feelings for her, perhaps suspecting something.

I found myself torn between loyalty to Alex and respecting Emily's trust in me. Now, I'm contemplating whether to disclose Alex's crush to Emily or to continue keeping his secret.

I can foresee potential fallout on both sides, and I fear damaging their friendship. So WIBTA if I spill the beans or should I maintain confidentiality?

Really need outside perspective.

That first promise you made to Alex, right after he confessed his crush, is the reason this gets messy the second Emily starts hinting at her own mystery someone.

The gathering is where everything flips, because Emily’s “I’m interested in someone” comment gives Alex just enough hope to say it might be him.

When Emily asks you directly if Alex has feelings for her, your silence stops being neutral and starts looking like a confession.

And once those two separate conversations collide, you’re left wondering which friendship actually gets hurt more, Alex’s or Emily’s.

If you spill it, you might save one heart and accidentally break the other.

Before you spill Alex’s secret crush, see if it’s right in this best-friend love triangle.
