Should I Tell My Friend I Like Their Crush?

Is it worth risking a friendship for love? OP grapples with confessing feelings for their friend's crush in this heart-wrenching dilemma.

Some crushes are cute, harmless little secrets, until they collide with real feelings and one bad timing choice. In this Reddit post, a 28-year-old guy is stuck in the middle of two friendships that feel like they’re one conversation away from getting wrecked.

Alice, his friend, has had a long-running crush on Ben, a mutual friend. But lately, the guy and Ben have gotten closer, and feelings are popping up on his side too, which makes everything feel like a ticking time bomb. Confessing to Ben could blow up Alice’s world, but keeping quiet means swallowing his own feelings and possibly losing the chance with Ben.

Now he’s wondering if he’s about to ruin the friendship dynamic, even if he does nothing wrong.

Original Post

So I'm a 28-year-old guy, and I have this friend, let's call her Alice. Alice has had a crush on our mutual friend, let's call him Ben, for a while now.

Ben and I have gotten closer lately and developed feelings for each other. It's been eating me up inside knowing how Alice feels about Ben, but I can't deny my own feelings.

I'm torn between confessing to Ben and potentially hurting Alice or keeping it to myself and not pursuing anything with Ben to spare Alice's feelings. I know this could seriously damage our friendship dynamic, but I'm struggling with what to do.

So AITA?

When Alice’s long crush on Ben is already in the air, the guy’s sudden closeness with Ben feels less like romance and more like a landmine.

That’s when it gets messy, because every time the two of them grow closer, the guy has to sit there knowing Alice might be hurting in the background.

The real problem hits when he considers telling Ben, because it could force Ben to choose between his feelings and the fallout with Alice.

And every option, confess or stay quiet, threatens the exact friendship dynamic he doesn’t want to fracture between Alice, Ben, and him.

He’s basically trying to win at love without losing the whole friend group in the process.
