Should We Rehome Our Dog After Biting Neighbors Child?
AITA for insisting my wife rehome our dog after a biting incident with a neighbor's child, sparking a debate on prioritizing safety over emotional attachments.
Max was supposed to be the happy ending. A few months after OP and his wife adopted the rescue dog, he went from “sweet and friendly” to the center of a nightmare when he bit the neighbor’s child during a backyard playdate.
Now the neighbor is furious, the injuries were minor but the fear is real, and they are demanding Max be rehomed. OP’s wife is devastated and insists it was a one-time fluke, while OP thinks the responsible move is to prevent another incident.
Here’s the part that makes everything messy: one bite, two sides, and a decision that could change their whole lives.

I (34M) and my wife (32F) got a rescue dog, Max, a few months ago. Max is a sweet dog and quickly became a part of our family.
However, last week, Max bit our neighbor's child when they came over to play with him in our backyard. Thankfully, the child's injuries were minor, but our neighbor was understandably upset.
They are now demanding that we rehome Max to ensure the safety of the neighborhood kids. My wife is devastated at the idea of giving up Max, but I believe it's the responsible thing to do to prevent any future incidents.
She's adamant that Max is not aggressive and it was just a one-time thing. I suggested training or muzzling Max, but our neighbor is insistent on rehoming.
I feel torn between my wife's emotions and the safety of others. So AITA?

The second Max bit the neighbor’s kid in the backyard, the neighbor’s tone went from “upset” to “we’re not taking chances,” and OP’s calm started cracking.
While OP’s wife is clinging to the idea that Max “is not aggressive,” OP is already thinking about what happens if the next playdate goes wrong.
When OP suggested training or muzzling Max, the neighbor shut it down fast, turning their disagreement into a full-on rehoming demand.
With Max still at home and the neighbor pushing harder, OP and his wife are stuck arguing over safety versus love, and neither side is backing down.

OP might be trying to protect the neighborhood, but he could end up losing Max and his marriage in the process.
