A Faucet Designed By Simin Qiu Reduces Water Waste While Creating Fascinating Swirls At The Same Time
This luxury product creates mesmerizing tornado-like swirls.
A faucet can be practical, but every so often it becomes the star of the room. Simin Qiu’s Swirl does exactly that, turning a basic bathroom fixture into a sleek design piece that also helps cut down on wasted water.
The London-based Royal College of Art graduate built the concept around a pair of turbines that shape the stream into a striking geometric pattern. It is minimal, modern, and a little hypnotic, which is probably why it drew so much attention when it won the IF Design Concept Award in 2014.
The real surprise is that the look is not just for show, and that is where this faucet gets even more interesting. Read on.
With its minimalistic aesthetic, this faucet embodies everything that modern design requires.
Thanks to the unique and soft water flow the faucet produces, the gentle feeling you get when it hits your hands is simply satisfying.
"It is more comfortable on people's hands because it's not flowing in a solid line. My design changes the angle at which the water hits your hands, making it smoother."
InstagramThe gentle and swirly nature of water is retained in Qiu’s masterpiece.
As he said, “According to my understanding, water is gentle and swirly. These two elements have been used in my work. The rotary outlet of the faucet creates a swirling motion. In this water faucet, the water is put through a complicated mechanism in the head of the device to set it into rotary motion, creating a type of sprinkling swirl.
This unusual-looking water jet emphasizes the beauty of flowing water and provides a pleasant surprise when it is first turned on. In addition, it visualizes the preciousness of water as a resource and makes users more aware of how they use this valuable raw material.”
InstagramThis feels like those small moments that prove the world is still full of surprises.
The minimalistic curved silver faucet head complements either black or white interiors, giving it a modern yet luxurious touch.

The mechanism behind this jaw-dropping faucet is not complicated.
According to the creator, "It's a very simple design. I've used two turbines to create the effect, with one making the water flow clockwise and the other anticlockwise."

There are three different settings for the water flow.
"The spiral is an organic shape that water takes in nature, and I wanted to recreate that."

Besides its exceptional design, this spectacular faucet reduces water waste; specifically, it saves 15% of water compared to traditional taps. This important feature makes it environmentally friendly, which we all appreciate. The designer initially intended for Swirl to be used in hotels, but given the positive impact it has on the environment, this genius product should be widely adopted. The vortex pattern spiral feels gentle when it hits your hands, which is another reason for this faucet to be used everywhere.
