A 7-year-old Syrian girl has become the internet’s latest reminder that love can be louder than disaster. In a viral video, she’s seen shielding her little brother under earthquake rubble, her hand staying put like a promise that refused to break.

They were trapped for around 17 hours after the Turkey and Syria earthquake, the one that has already left more than 11,000 people dead and tens of thousands missing. While the world is counting casualties and trying to reach survivors, this tiny sibling duo was fighting for air and safety, with one child doing her best to keep the other calm, protected, and within reach.

While officials reported massive damage across Turkey and Syria, this family’s survival story was unfolding in silence under the rubble.

The protective girl had her hand on her brother's head when the rescuers discovered the two. Over 11,000 people have already died, and tens of thousands are still missing as a result of the deadly earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday.

Thankfully, the young girl and her brother were both rescued, and they are now safe.

The clip spread fast, especially after a UN representative posted about the girl making it out safely, begging people to share positivity instead of ignoring it.

“The 7-year-old girl who kept her hand on her little brother’s head to protect him while they were under the rubble for 17 hours has made it safely,” United Nations representative Mohammad Safa wrote on Twitter. “I see no one sharing. If she were dead, everyone would share! Share positivity.”

With the earthquake death toll climbing and conditions still dire, the video became a rare bright moment, and the siblings were finally pulled to safety.

Adelheid Marschang, Senior Emergency Officer for the World Health Organization, stated that this catastrophe is on top of several others that have already occurred in the affected area. We applaud this heroic girl for protecting her brother against all odds.
