Female Traveler Reveals Popular Tourist Spot She’d Never Visit Again, Especially Solo

No, it has nothing to do with safety.

Christina Ford thought she was just doing the classic solo traveler thing, grab a drink, watch the sunset, and then meet friends for dinner. Instead, she ended up with a trip that felt less like a vacation and more like a money trap with a side of awkward rules.

She’s 63, traveling alone, and she says the problems started fast. At one spot, the restaurant was barely a third full, yet she was told it was a €100 minimum, which sounds insane when you’re literally one person with no group to split the bill. Then another place reportedly demanded a reservation even though she was the only one there.

The kicker came later, when she checked out and says she was asked for even more tipping on top of the hotel costs, taxes, and room service charges.

We can’t imagine having such a bad experience that you never go back there.

Christina Ford is a 63-year-old woman who came to TikTok to explain what place she would quite literally never visit again after experiencing something insane. "Do not do it," she warned her TikTok viewers.

Christina began her story by explaining that a few things on the trip left her shocked. "I was by myself, and I went to have a drink. It was about 5:30, and I was going to watch the sunset," she said.

"The first place I went to, I sat down—the place was probably about a third full—lots of empty seats. So I said I was just here for a drink before going to meet some friends for dinner." She continued, "They said it was €100 minimum. I said, 'So you're expecting one person to spend €100 by themselves on drinks?'"

Christina, like most of us would, decided to just visit another place instead.

This is when she decided to go to another restaurant, but they told her that she had to make a reservation, even if it was just her and the place was practically empty. "The fourth place I went to, they took me," she added.

She continued to say that Mykonos, Greece, was not a place to go if you were traveling solo. "Take it off your list; it's not worth it."

This wasn't even the worst part of her story, though. She continued to tell us more about what happened when she decided to leave her hotel room at the end of her stay. "I get my hotel bill, I'm checking out... hotel costs, taxes on top of that, room service I've had by the pool, [the] tip I've left on top of those," she said.

"I'm putting down my credit card, but they leave a little spot and they're waiting for me... Sorry, you need me to leave a tip on top of tips I've already left, on top of the room tax on top of the room?"

Christina said that she's never seen anything like this and that she's never been asked for a tip like that.

“In all my years of travel, I had never seen anything like this," she said.

People in the comments were split, as some said that this was normal behavior when traveling, but others suggested that she should have just chosen another place to go instead.

Before Christina even got to the sunset, she hit that empty-seat restaurant where they told her it was a €100 minimum just for her.

When she switched to another restaurant, they still made it complicated, insisting she needed a reservation even though the place was practically empty.

Many people underestimate how travel can amplify feelings of vulnerability, especially in unfamiliar environments.

Creating a travel plan that includes familiar activities or local contacts can help ease anxiety. For instance, joining group tours or events can provide both safety and social interaction, making solo travel more enjoyable.

After Christina decided Mykonos was not worth it solo, she still had to deal with the hotel checkout situation, where the bill and tips piled up.

It's interesting to hear about people's experiences when they visit other places. This is especially interesting because Christina travels by herself all the time and would be someone you could ask questions about traveling.

For her to react this way means that this practice is not at all common for those who travel.

Travel can be a transformative experience, but it's vital to approach it with awareness and preparation.
