Biologist Spotted Real-Life SpongeBob and Patrick in the Sea Bed and Shared Pictures for Their Fans

This is a treat for fans of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Deep-sea footage can turn up all kinds of surprises, but this one was especially fun for SpongeBob SquarePants fans. A biologist spotted two sea creatures that looked a lot like SpongeBob and Patrick, and the images quickly started making the rounds.

Christopher Mah was watching a live feed from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration when he noticed the bright yellow sponge and pink starfish on Retriever Seamount, an extinct volcano east of New York City. They were found about 2,000 meters below the surface, far from the cartoon's pineapple under the sea.

The resemblance was hard to ignore, and the internet did the rest.

Another contrast to the show is that, in this case, the sponge and the starfish are not best friends.

“In all likelihood, the reason that the starfish is right next to that sponge is that the sponge is just about to be devoured, at least in part,” Mah shared.

Todd Meadows’ mother pushed producers for answers after his tragic on-set death.

A commonly known fact about sea stars is that stationary and slow-moving marine creatures, such as sea sponges, oysters, and clams, form their diet as they are carnivorous.

The character of Patrick is inspired by the pink sea star, and SpongeBob is based on a typical synthetic sponge. However, due to their close resemblance to the characters in the picture Mah posted, people have turned them into memes by adding legs and arms.

However rare it was, the picture of these real sea creatures brought a lot of joy to fans of the animated show.

Mah shared, “If we can bring positivity and make people happy by showing them nature, well, that’s what nature has always done for us before.”
