Din Djarin and Grogu's next Star Wars story is already here, and it is a spooky comic set after Season 3

Din Djarin and Grogu return in the new Star Wars one-shot Nightmare on Nevarro, released October 21, 2026.

Din Djarin and Grogu are back, just not in the form some Star Wars fans may have expected next. With their live action future still uncertain, Lucasfilm has sent the pair into a new printed adventure that is already on sale.

The change for fans is simple: the next new Mandalorian and Grogu story is a comic, not a new Disney+ season. Nightmare on Nevarro was released on October 21, 2026, from Mad Cave Studios and Papercutz in collaboration with Lucasfilm Publishing.

The one-shot is written by Delilah S. Dawson and illustrated by Alessandro Ranaldi. It gives Din Djarin and his foundling another mission while larger questions remain around when, or if, they will return in live action.

That uncertainty follows a mixed theatrical run for The Mandalorian and Grogu, which continued the Disney+ series on the big screen earlier this year. The movie took in $345 million worldwide against a reported $165 million production budget, making it the lowest grossing live action Star Wars film at the global box office. A fourth season of The Mandalorian has also been reported as scrapped, and the franchise's plans for Din and Grogu after the film remain unclear.

What Nightmare on Nevarro adds

The new story sends the Mandalorian and Grogu to Nevarro, where they look into frightening creatures with glowing red eyes that have been troubling the planet. Their investigation takes them into lava tubes filled with magma as they try to learn what is behind the encounters.

For readers tracking where this fits, the comic is set between The Mandalorian Season 3 from 2023 and this year's film. It also follows Danger in the Dark, another publication featuring the duo that arrived earlier in 2026.

The comic means Din and Grogu are still active in Star Wars publishing and gaming even as their next live action chapter stays unresolved. Fans can also find another version of the pair in LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, an animated project released in 2026. Their movie is now streaming on Disney+ as well.

As for the next Star Wars film heading to theaters, Lucasfilm's schedule points to Star Wars: Starfighter, an original adventure directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling. Its release date is May 28, 2027.
