People Are Astonished At How Ridiculous This Starbucks Barista Is Acting After Working An 8 Hour Shift

This Starbucks barista clearly doesn't understand what it's like to work a full-time job.

A Starbucks barista is sitting in the back room, surrounded by supplies, filming a video that starts with the kind of sentence that makes people stop scrolling: “I’m literally about to quit.”

He’s a full-time student, scheduled for 25 hours a week, then weekends hit with open to close shifts, eight-and-a-half hours each Saturday and Sunday. In the video, he says he’s crying in the back room, almost crying on the floor, and the comments roll in fast, mean and messy, like everyone has a verdict ready.

Once the video hit 11 million views, the argument stopped being about coffee and turned into a fight over what “normal” work should look like.

“I’m literally about to quit,” he said. “I don’t know if I’m going to do it, but like, I really want to. I almost walked out today. I’m crying in the back room, and I almost cried on the floor.”

He's clearly very upset about his job and expresses his desire to quit. He then explains further why he's upset.

“I’m a full-time student. I get scheduled for 25 hours a week, and on weekends, they schedule me the entire day — open to close. I’m on the schedule for eight-and-a-half hours, both Saturday and Sunday.”

I'm actually confused as to how this could even be open to close.

Ultimately, if he's upset about it, then it's worth being upset about. He should ask for fewer hours, though, or try to give up shifts to find balance.

Some people even pointed out that Starbucks can be quite busy and understaffed at times, which many people don't recognize.

“It’s just not viable. It’s very stressful,” Ortiz said. “And a lot of people don’t really notice the humans behind this assembly.”

That back-room breakdown, where he says he almost walked out, is what made people feel shocked and offended at the same time.

This also echoes the family move fight where someone refused unpaid labor and drew a hard line.

When he explains he’s scheduled open to close on weekends while also being a full-time student, the comment section splits into two loud teams.

Even the people who say he should “grow up” get tangled in the fact that Starbucks can be busy and understaffed, which he calls “not viable” and “very stressful.”

And just like that, Ortiz’s line about “the humans behind this assembly” turns his rant into a debate about whether anyone actually sees the person working the register.

Well, what do you think? People's comments were really conflicted.

The older generation said they dealt with worse, so he'll be okay, but the younger generation noted that with school, he's working a lot of hours.

No matter the stance, if he's unhappy, then he definitely should try to figure out how to change it. But whatever changes he makes, he will still need to work.

So, he better get used to it.

He’s not just quitting Starbucks, he’s quitting the idea that open to close while in school is supposed to be fine.
