What changed, and when runners can sign up

runDisney has reworked its 2026 Virtual 12Ks of Christmas as a Stitch-themed event. The change affects anyone planning to join the annual virtual holiday challenge, which can be completed anywhere from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31.

Registration opens Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. Eastern on runDisney.com, and the full challenge costs $185.

The event is made up of three separate 4K races. Their names are Cute & Fluffy, Mele Kalikimaka and 'Ohana Wonderland. Together, those three runs total 12 kilometers, or about 7.5 miles.

Each race has its own angle. Cute & Fluffy uses a Christmas Eve-inspired theme. Mele Kalikimaka draws from Hawaii, which ties back to Stitch. 'Ohana Wonderland centers on family during the holidays.

Because this is a virtual series, participants do not need to travel to a Disney park. The races can be completed wherever runners want, including on a treadmill or in their own neighborhood.

What comes with the Stitch challenge

The registration package includes four medals, one for each 4K and one challenge medal for completing the full set. Runners also get a themed shoe ornament, a Stitch Santa hat, a challenge trading pin, four vinyl stickers, holiday candy, a box of Twinings holiday tea, a digital bib, a certificate and a printable race toolkit.

The race naming also leans into Stitch’s Hawaiian roots. Mele Kalikimaka is the Hawaiian way to say Merry Christmas, and 'ohana means family.

The character choice fits a larger Stitch moment for Disney. The live action Lilo & Stitch passed $1 billion worldwide in 2025, and Disney has a sequel in development. Stitch has also remained a regular presence in Disney merchandise and in the parks.
