"I think this is specific to each person, but there are definitely some common threads when it comes to helpful habits and behaviors:Exercise is a big one. Not only does this improve your physical health, but it also does a great deal to enhance mental health by releasing positive chemicals in the brain and providing us with a sense of accomplishment and pride in ourselves.Meditation is another habit that I feel could greatly benefit anyone. Although some still find it too new-agey, I believe the stigma around meditation is changing. A number of studies have shown that meditation can have a profound impact on mental health and help individuals better cope with anxiety and depression.Socializing is huge. When you are feeling down in the dumps, it is so important to have a good social circle to turn to for support. Although it is common for those struggling with depression or anxiety to isolate themselves, this should be avoided if possible, as healthy social interaction has many benefits.Reducing social media use is something I’ve been practicing recently myself and have found a marked increase in my happiness. It is hard to go on social media and not automatically start comparing your life to those of the people you see on these apps.However, you are only ever viewing someone’s highlight reel on Facebook/Instagram, which leads to feelings of inadequacy or jealousy of others.
