Scammer Was Trolled So Badly By His "Victim" That He Asked Her To Stop Sending Him Messages

Poor little scammer.

Scammers, con men, and hustlers are nothing new. They have been around since the dawn of humankind, which means they have had a lot of time to perfect their game.

New technologies have opened up a whole new world of possibilities for them, and online or phone scams mean that they don’t even have to get out of bed or face their victims. This reduces the time needed for a scam, allowing them to perform hundreds of scams simultaneously.

One of the most common tactics is impersonating a family member, friend, or neighbor. Usually, the victim receives a text from an unknown number that simply says, “Hey, it’s me, my phone is dead, I am out of gas (flat tire, lost my wallet… I need a favor…).” This allows the victim to fill in the blanks…

Now, most of the time, this doesn’t work. Still, scammers send hundreds and thousands of these messages every day, so even if 1% of the recipients send money, the scammers make a nice profit.

However, every once in a while, they encounter someone who is up to the challenge and willing to play along. This is precisely what happened when a scammer tried to get a blogger named Amber Says to send him $50.

Amber Jacobs, the woman who shared this hilarious exchange, says, “I’m no stranger to scammers. I recognized the tone immediately. I think we’ve all had that text or phone call that has left us feeling angry or taken advantage of.”

She also mentioned that she gets furious when people try to take what is not theirs. “These days, our information is so accessible that these types of situations don’t surprise me anymore. I just hate that there are some people who aren’t able to recognize when they’re being scammed and taken advantage of.”

Amber takes every opportunity to waste these guys. She added that the funny neighborhood soap opera was easy to come up with “when you live in a very small town where everyone knows everything about everyone.”

This conversation, in itself, is a reflection of things you’d hear on aisle 5 at the local grocery store.” The personalities are not real, but real-life events undeniably inspired the story.

Amber added that she has always been a storyteller and loves to use her imagination. “These types of conversations allow me to be as ridiculous as I want.

I’m just glad people get enjoyment out of it. I’ve come to love my town with all of its quirks and Lindas with the bad potato salad.”

What you need to know about text scams

Thanks to technological progress, it has become incredibly easy for scammers to pull their cons, and safer than ever, because they don’t have to face their targets anymore.

Smishing, SMS phishing, or text scams are cons involving fraudulent text messages. Although the texts vary, some hallmarks are always the same:

Text scams usually come from long numbers. Simple Texting implies that “If you receive a text message from an unidentified 11-digit number, the odds are high that it’s a scam.” If there is something fishy about the message, check the number.

Different family emergency texts are also suspicious. The messages are very scary, which is essentially why they work on so many people.

Other popular text swindles include reactivation and refund tricks, as well as the famous “you won a prize!” scam. Never click on these links.

Also, do not reply or act immediately, because this is exactly what crooks are trying to achieve. Slow down, take a step back, think it through, and then act—if there is any need to.
