Woman Gets Her Adult Stepdaughter To Pay The Full Cost Of Her Rent In Exchange For The Tuition Money She Wasted On Vices
The stepdaughter spent it on weed and gambling.
Believe it or not, adults mooching off their parents are on the rise. According to research, 35 percent of all adults between the ages of 21 and 45 receive financial assistance from their parents.
Two-thirds of those surveyed indicated that without such help, they can't make ends meet. Parents don't seem to have a problem with the situation.
Another study found that millennial parents believe that it's more challenging for today's young adults to get by than it was for the generation of their moms and dads.
If indeed the parents provide financial support, the least that the young adult can do is use the funds wisely. Unfortunately, this did not happen with a woman's stepdaughter, whom she supported financially along with her husband.
The woman shared on the "Am I The A**hole" (AITA) subreddit that her family has set simple rules for the adults living with them. If they want to study, they'll be fully supported financially.
Otherwise, they'll have to contribute to the household budget and help with chores. They have a whole lot of other rules, which are actually very simple to follow.
The woman's oldest stepdaughter, who is 23 years old, didn't want a college education and opted to get employed instead. Eventually, she told her parents that she wanted to take some courses at the occupational center.
She was provided with the funds she needed, but every single penny was spent on nothing but gambling and weed.
Naturally, the original poster wanted it back and demanded that she pay for the rent in full, to which the stepdaughter refused. To add insult to injury, the biological mother is taking the 23-year-old's side.
The woman and her husband are very supportive of their children.

This stepdaughter is just too selfish.
PeaPsychological3516
These parents are kind enough to provide her a home to return to. It wouldn't be surprising if they kicked her out.

It's not about the money. It's her attitude.

The word that best describes exactly what she did: scam.

How will this lady become a responsible adult if the biological mom is an enabler?

If the biological mom is enabling, it might be best to lessen her influence on her daughter.

Of all the people who became a bad influence, it had to be her real mother.

No matter how you look at it, the stepdaughter is the bad guy here.

The stepdaughter clearly needs to learn how to become a responsible and accountable adult.
If she's going to be that selfish, nothing good will come out of her life. She should be thankful that her dad and stepmom are still willing to give her a chance to correct her wrongdoings.
Others wouldn't be as merciful. If you were her parents, would you kick her out?
